>From Tim Krupa:

I'm all for the staying open late as a great gesture of welcome-ness. I
don't expect my business will receive any business at all from the cruise
ship visitors because they can get Spa Treatments on the ship while it's at
sea, BUT they will be back!!!!!!!

I think the survey card is a great idea.

As I was helping with the ambassador effort, thanking them for coming and
passing out local taffy, many were sitting in the bus waiting for the rest
to return to the bus. At that time they could have filled out the survey
[if they so desired] [plus, we'd need a few pencils] and we'd collect them
when the bus was ready to go. The bus drivers I dealt with were super
friendly.

Tim K.

Because I own a restaurant, I was wondering if the cruisers would "waste"
their money on food that is free-flowing and included in their ticket on the
ship.

What might help the town businesses (perhaps too late for this season) is if
the passengers could fill out a questionaire that let's us know where their
interests lie...sight seeing, gift shopping, etc.

I'm sure that if EVERYBODY stayed open and they had more to choose from it
would be best. But for so many of us, we are there from open to close. A
longer day with little pay off can be exhausting and frustrating.

I applaud the effort and support anything that helps bring business to town.
True tourists are the mainstay. They are here for the duration and spend
their money here. I've found that Cruisers tend to be window shoppers.
Probably shops with "Cannon Beach" momentos will do best, eh?

Thanks for everything. Wish I could do more. Rick is gravely ill, I work 6
days (7?) a week and pretty much collapse when I get home. I am cheering
from the side-lines and try to support the town and arts in any way that I
can.

Sus

Many of you have already received Tracy's message (see below). I'm sure some
of you are saying it's not worth it to be open for such a small group of
people with so little time. I agree, but at the same time, if we want the
numbers to grow and we want them to spend more time here in the future, we
have to make the investment of time and good service. I encourage everyone
to give it a chance. This is an opportunity. Let's build on it. It is
certain that if we're not open and don't welcome these visitors, the cruise
lines will schedule us out. .. George

 Dear Cannon Beach Businesses,

Please look at your "Chamber Weekly Update" arriving this afternoon for the
new cruise schedule. Please Note: The first two large ships coming in are
Sept 22 and not June 22 as previously listed.

We have been working with Sundial on the Tuesday evening cruise ships that
have been re-routed to Astoria instead of Mexico. Regrettably because some
of the Seaside and Cannon Beach businesses are not participating by staying
open late and some of the tour participants have complained to the cruise
ships, the Seaside/Cannon Beach tour is in jeopardy. Please let me know by
tomorrow 12pm if your business plans to stay open this Tuesday and we will
send the list in advance to Sundial to let the cruise participants know
BEFORE they arrive in Cannon Beach.

Thank You,

Tracy Abel
