Hi WMM Goup,

REMINDER: The Social Networking For Business Discussion Group is tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7, 8:30-9:30am at the Tolovana Inn, upstairs conference room.

If you cannot make this program, but want to remain on the email list for discussion group reminders, please reply to this email and I will add you to a list separate from the WMM group email list. We will discuss other days to continue the discussion group on a twice a month basis, though we have tentatively scheduled the first and third Tuesday of each month.

This initial program will cover some of the basics about getting started, but the real idea is to share information and ideas on how to use these tools most effectively for business. We will devote time to specific topics that can be discussed in-depth in future meetings.

Laptops are optional, but this is intended to be a discussion group, not a workshop.

The primary focus of the group will be on using Facebook and Twitter. If you do not have a Facebook or Twitter account for your business, I urge you to set them up before attending. Here are some tips in setting up your accounts.

GET REGISTERED NOW IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY:

For Facebook: Go to www.Facebook.com. I would suggest that you set up an account for your business separate from your personal account. You will need a unique email address (only one account can be set-up per email address). It is possible to add a business page to your personal profile page, but having these separate will offer the maximum flexibility for most businesses.

To set up a page from your business separate from your personal account, make sure you are logged OUT of Facebook and go to the Facebook home page: www.Facebook.com Click on Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business. Follow the instructions and reserve the name of your business NOW!

To set up a page from your personal profile account, while logged into Facebook, go to another business page (you can search for Coast Explorer Magazine). Scroll down to the bottom left and click on Create a Page for My Business. Follow the instructions.

While logged into Facebook, you can search for other businesses to become a fan of to see how they are using Facebook. Their posts will show up on your “wall.” Here are some suggestions: Coast Explorer Magazine (of course), Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, Inn at Cannon Beach, Surfsand Resort, Stephanie Inn, Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals, The Ocean Lodge, Cannon Beach Surf, Season’s Café, Hallmark Inns and Resorts, Icefire Glassworks.

For Twitter: As with Facebook, I recommend setting up a separate account for your business. You will need a unique email address for a business account if you already have a personal account (only one account can be set-up per email address). Go to www.twitter.com Click on “Get Started – Join.” Fill out name, password and email and click on “Create my account.” Reserve the best business name/username you can get. You are allowed 15 characters. This can be changed and photos can be added later, so just get your account set up NOW!

Once your account is set up, you may wish to begin following others. Their posts will then show up on your “timeline.” Click on “Find People” and search for the desired name (Twitter user names do not have spaces). When you find who you are looking for, click on the “Follow” button or on their name or photo, which will take you to their timeline and you can decide if you want to receive their posts. You can also look at who others follow or are being followed by. Here are some following suggestions: Coastexplorer, CannonBeachInfo, TravelOregon, Centerdiamond, Puppylovebysea, Cannon_beach (farzahn Kamali), Icefire_Glass, KarenatTakeCare, cbarts (arts association), cannonbeachfm (farmers market!), ORStateParks, CannonBeachNet, CBHotelGM, EVOOcb.

See you tomorrow!
