3. WOW this weekend

5. History Center Annual Meeting
6. Artist needed
7. Next Wednesday Morning Meeting – November 18, Mo’s, 8am - Show &
Tell by Karen Myhr of Take Care
1. We went around the table and everyone expressed their take on Last
weekend's SWAF. General consensus was that the crowd was good (down somewhat
from prior years). It was a good crowd having a good time. There were new
faces in the crowd. Money was tight, but some galleries reported sales up
from prior events. Quick Draw on Friday sold out in spite of the increase in
admission. The hope that the increased admission would attract more art
buyers did not materialize. Bidding was down. Quick Draw/SWAF photos can be
seen by clicking the Quick Draw link near the top of www.cannon-beach.net.
The Hornbuckle Concert sold out at the last minute and was reported to have
been a "Great Show" - two encores. After making the gallery rounds on
Saturday night, people stuck around on Sunday. BobNec suggested we add a
Sunday event in 2010. Jeff reported that neighboring towns had copy-cat
events this year - a form of flattery for Cannon Beach.
2. Bob Neroni and Lenore Emory of EVOO treated everyone to cinnamon
rolls and bacon cheese puffs and shared their EVOO story. They found Cannon
Beach years ago and wished at the time to live here. Five years ago, they
found a home and business location and opened EVOO with a focus on the "Art
of Cooking". The food, for the most part, is organic, free range with care
to only offer seafood not on the endangered list. They offer classes,
catering and retail. Their Dinner Show is a four course wine dinner prepared
as you watch. It is served Thu, Fri & Sat 7pm to 930pm. [I can tell you from
my own experience - this is a must .. George] Go to their freshly updated
website www.evoo.biz to see their schedule and offerings.
3. Women Only Weekend (WOW) is this weekend. Wendy passed out pink
8.5x11 sheets with a big W and "Women Only Weekend Participant" for
businesses to put in their windows to let people know that they have
something special going on. There is a flyer listing businesses who got
their info to Wendy early enough, but if your business has any kind of
special offering, contact Wendy at oceanlodge.com to get your pink sheet. The
flyer can be found by clicking the WOW link near the top of
www.cannon-beach.net.
4. SWAF apparel is still available. Long sleeve tees ($22.50 to $25),
Qtr Zip Sweatshirts ($44 to $49.50) and Hooded Sweats ($37.50 to $43.50) are
available and the Chamber Also wine ($20) with the SWAF 2009 Logo (signed by
the artist) is available at the Chamber or at Oregon Gallery. see
http://www.cannonbeach.org/swaf2008/merchandise.pdf.
5. The annual meeting of the Historical Society will be Nov 21 at 9am
at the History Center. John Williams and George Shields will be honored.

caricatures for her. mdueber at opusnet.com

5. Debbie Nelson, Cannon Beach Florist, Basketcase Inc shared info
about herself and her business. She was born and raised in Cannon Beach
[insert: something very few in this town can claim] She opened Basketcase in
1997 in the 400 sq feet that is now Kamali and Co. Ten years later she moved
into a much larger space in Ecola Square. Her business started as a "bucket"
shop - where customers came in and bought flowers. Now, almost all her
flower business is almost all delivered. Weddings have become key. Last year
she did 80 weddings - not a big year compared to some others. Besides
flowers, she offers a wide variety of logo merchandise - Cannon Beach,
Haystack Rock, etc, including some of her own artwork creations. This
weekend, besides other scheduled events in her shop, she will be featuring
the photography of her college-senior daughter, Julie. .
6. Lesle Palmeri announced that one of her clients, Port of Astoria,
has an open house of the new Marine and Industrial Facility at North Tongue
Point set for Satuday Dec 5th from 1-4pm at North Tongue Point Hangar 3.
7. Valerie and Julie shared info and passed around a book showing the
fruits of the Cannon Beach Business Associates efforts/expenditures since
Fall of last year. They are soliciting money to continue. George asked where
things were with the group folding into the Chamber as had been suggested by
them on numerous occasions. George expressed concern that with money tight
and budgets limited, that some businesses may have to choose between
supporting the Chamber and it's efforts vs the Cannon Beach Business
Associates. Valerie and Julie said that their efforts are in harmony with
the Chamber, the difference being that they promote all businesses and
events while the Chamber promotes only its members and its events. Valerie
expressed her lack of confidence in turning their function over to the
Chamber at this time. They need approximately $15,000 to carry them till
they anticipate the proposed 1% increase in motel tax will be approved and
take effect. The City is proposing that they serve as the group that
administer the state mandated (70% of any motel tax increases) expenditures
on tourism. [It would be the City who would decide exactly who gets the
money. The CBBA would administer it. Some of that 70% is proposed to be
allocated to CBBA]
8. Wendy encouraged anyone who has any type of event scheduled (or
anything else of interest) for 2010 contact OCVA. They are putting together
their calendar and are soliciting input. (www.ocva.org)
9. Gary reported that plans are going forward for the March 12-14th

Walk Fundraiser. Contact Gary to learn more and to participate.

12. Eight Cannon Beach businesses have been burglarized in the past two
weeks. Most have taken place at dusk. Only cash has been taken. Bob
suggested we need the police out of their cars and on the sidewalks with
more regularity. Carol said that the same thing was taking place in Seaside
and the the Seaside police suspected a local gang. At any rate, do not leave
cash in your store.
