[wmm] Question to Robert Mushen

Good Morning,

As a public servant I know from experience the gift of time we give to
build a stronger community. That is evident in the many things that Bob has
worked on in the short time he has been in office. I think less than six
months? This is not a political endorsement just an observation.

It's not always what you say but in the way it is said that may come across
not in the manner intended. The question to Bob, from my perspective, came
across in a negative way. Maybe asking the question in private may have
been a better approach?

Someone on twitter said "be careful with your words, because they matter".

The Wednesday morning group needs to be a place that all can share and feel
safe even if there is a difference of opinion. We can agree to disagree
with respect. Many would be disappointed if people stopped attending
because they didn't feel welcome.

Big picture is we are all trying to work together to support and build our
businesses. Would it be beneficial to create conflict with others that we
would want to support our businesses?

It might be in the best interest of all to stop the e-mails and maybe talk
about this at the next meeting?

Just my two cents,

Wendy

Subject: [wmm] Question to Robert Mushen

Hello all-

I was not able to attend this last wmm due to other commitments so I
apologize for putting this in email form.

At two recent WMMs I asked Clatsop County Commisioner Bob Mushen to speak to
what the *project* is, that he refers to in his election flyers as a $75,000
project he brought to Cannon Beach.

Both times he stated he was not at liberty to discuss the issue.

Below I have attached copies of the further discussion that took place via
email. I attach these both to clarify my position and inform the rest of
the group of the conversation as it has developed.

Glad to be able to have this discussion round table to have this type of
open conversation.

Thank you!

Kathy

Subject: Your question

Kathy: I was "touting" the effort, which I did on my own time and which had
never been done before.
I secured a pledge for at least $75,000 for a project the city of CB is
going to do anyhow. The fact
that all the details are not worked out yet does not in any way detract from
my effort and I have
the right to be proud of my accomplishment. Criticizing me for trying does
not make you look very good.

Hi Bob,

I think you mis-understand my question, as it was not a criticism. And as I
am not running for public office I am not motivated by "how my question
makes me look".

As I stated, if you have brought a $75,000 project to Cannon Beach, the
citizens of Cannon Beach have a right to know what this project is. The
statement that you have brought *a project* to Cannon Beach is meaningless,
and more over worrisome if while details are *being worked out* the
community is not able to be informed and *the project* cannot be named. If
you have brought a $75,000 project to Cannon Beach, that is beneficial and
complimentary to the atmosphere and spirit of Cannon Beach I applaud you,
for this accomplishment. Even so the citizens deserve the opportunity to be
informed. If it is something that *can not be spoken about*, then it should
not be spoken about or referenced in political campaign material.

The manner in which you are presenting the *project* reeks of underhanded
back room political posturing. I was hoping to provide you with the
opportunity to clear the air.

All my question was asking for is transparency by our elected and appointed
officials in all matters concerning our communities.

Thank you for all that you have been able to accomplish to this point, and
those things you have helped to set in motion to benefit our communities in
Clatsop County.

Hi, Kathy: I understand your position. It was not my intent to posture or be
underhanded, but I think I deserve some credit for the effort. The problem
is how to announce the effort with the details being in process. It will be
a good thing, I promise. Thank you for asking for transparency; I am in full
favor of that and that is one of the reasons I want to be elected. I hope we
can be friends--I respect your approach and your concern for the community.

Bob
