4. WendyH: A meeting will be held at Ocean Lodge to strategize about WOW 2012. The meeting date and time has not been set.
5. KathyK: Kathy learned through her informal survey of women in her store they were in town for WOW. Not as many as she would have like, but still a good number. JimK: Not much impact at Icefire. JohnB: Guests at CBVR indicated they were here for WOW. LisaS: There was a good vibe at Mo’s with the WOW visitors. JeffT: Noticed groups of women on Friday at TerHars. Saturday sales were only as good as last year. With the 3-day weekend, more was expected, but the rain and wind on Saturday was a factor. GeorgeV: George’s free Saturday afternoon portrait offering had to take place indoors and was down from last year. Somehow it got left off the flyers and website for the event and most of the portraits were visitors to the gallery and not WOW attendees. See photos at www.cannon-beach.net/events/wow/wow2011. MarcyW: The events at the Wayfarer and Surfsand were very well received but not as well attended. StephanieA: Not many late shoppers came upstairs to Primary Elements, but she did observer people in Maggie & Henry on the ground floor when she left that evening. CarmenS: Most Sea Ranch lodging guests did not know of event before arriving but the Spa was busy. She felt there were more women out than last year. WendyH: Ocean Lodge was full. Occupancy is up 12% for the month to date. Inn at Cannon Beach is down though.
6. KathyK: Kathy (kathy at lalunaloca.com) passed out flyers for the “Mimosa Madness” shopping event (Friday after Thanksgiving). 2. BrentD: Right after this meeting at the Chamber is the second of two meetings for TAC recipient groups to discuss Travel Writers and Press Releases. (17 People attended that meeting, many from the WMM. Brent passed out valuable info about the topics)
2. BrentD: Friday’s Quickdraw was nearly sold out, but income from the auction was down. Saturday’s concert at the Coaster with Tom Grant was also nearly sold out. Next year will be the 25th SWAF. “We need to make it special.” StephanineA: The weekend was very busy both Friday and Saturday. JimK: Traffic was very good. Sales were up 80% from last year. The energy was good. MargoD: 50% of those who came into Maggie & Henry didn’t know about SWAF before coming to town. KathyK: The majority of those coming into La Luna Loca did not know of the event before arriving. This has not been the case in the past. RobertK: There was good energy and a good buzz at Cannon Beach Treasure Co. GeorgeV: That buzz was the alcohol. “I poured 18 bottles of champagne.” Visitors at George Vetter FotoArt reported that there seemed to be fewer people out than other years. Stephanie and Jim had heard similar reports. JimK: 70K people were at the Huskies vs Ducks football game plus some other events in other locales. RobinR: Daughter Risley asked Robin to report that business at Oregon Gallery was half of last year. JerryM: “Flat is the new up” Restaurant business was good for Martin Hospitality, but lodging was not full. GeorgeV: Surfsand still had vacancy at 830pm on Friday when George arrived at Quickdraw.
3. GeorgeV: An idea that came out at yesterday’s Gallery Group meeting was to rethink SWAF’s Friday night event. Because there has been a steady trend down in the price of art sold in the auction, many artists will not participate. Gallery owners don’t want their artists’ work cheapened by having it sell for half of what it is going for elsewhere. Few artists can produce a quality piece in an hour and the public seems to look at the auction as an opportunity to get art cheap. 5 or so years ago, it was just the opposite. Instead of artists creating a work in an hour to be sold in the auction that follows, artists could work on a piece that they have started previously with no intention of finishing it there, but rather demonstrating their techniques, tools, skills, etc. The best artists could be brought back. A percentage (say 10%) of any work of artists who participate sold there or in the days that followed could go to the Chamber. An additional % could be paid if it was purchased by someone who was an attendee at the event.
4. BrentD: Training for Chamber members for taking advantage of the interactive aspects of the soon to be unveiled Chamber website begins Monday Nov 14 and runs every Monday for 6 weeks thru Dec 19. There are three times each Monday. 9am 10am and 4pm. Call ahead or just show up.
5. JerryM: WOW (Women Only Weekend) is this Fri-Sun. The Wayfarer Restaurant will be receiving guests from 9-11p on Friday. George Vetter will be doing portraits at Village Centre (outside, weather permitting) and posting them on Cannon-Beach.Net. BrianO: There will be an open house above Lush Wine Bar in The Loft condo on Sat from noon to 3pm. More WOW at http://www.facebook.com/wowcannonbeach.
6. MargoD: Margo’s committee of 1 (one) is working on the festivities for Haystack Holidays. Her plan is for a “Tender little Cannon Beach Christmas”. There will be wreath making at the Chamber the Sat after Thanksgiving. The annual Lamplighting will be the 1st Sat in Dec – Dec 3rd.
