Next Wednesday Morning Meeting –June 13, 2012, Mo’s, 8am. Meet the Chief

 1.   SharonV: Besides everything else already announced (see
www.cbsandcastle.com), Jerome Kersey, former Portland Trailblazer, will
attend Friday’s 6-9pm Buckets and Shovels dinner at Tolovana Inn and also be
on the beach Saturday. GeorgeV: There will be a Sandcastle slideshow
projected during the dinner. Beach setup will begin at 530am Saturday. I’ll
be there. Help is always needed and appreciated as is the case for cleanup
between 1 and 2pm. Masters (all 6 of them) begin at 7am. Judging is at noon.
Cars need to be off the beach by 3pm. There will be a bonfire on the beach
at Surfsand at 7pm and a concert at the Coaster by Beckerheads at 730pm.
Sunday is the Fun Run/Walk at 9am. 

 

2.   BrianO: June lodging afterhours will be June 21st at 530pm at Sea
Breese Court.

 

3.   CarmenS. Sea Ranch Resort is sponsoring a Beach Walk during Get
Outdoors Week. Set off for an hour walk from Sea Ranch at 10am sharp on
Thursday June 7. Bring a lunch for a picnic immediately following the walk.

4.   SteveH/JeneeP: SHRED UNWANTED DOCUMENTS-RECYCLE OLD CELL PHONES-PREVENT
ID THEFT Shred-A-Thon and Recycling of Cell phones. Sponsored by Pacific
Alarm Systems and BBB. June 30, 2012 - 10 am to 2 pm, 3577 Hwy 101 N.,
Gearhart. Donations - Can Food items or Monetary support are welcome to
support the Regional Food Bank. Pacific Alarm Systems is also certified to
dispose and recycle low voltage batteries for your convenience all year
around. Donations are voluntary. 

 

5.  JeneeP: We started June with the support of SOLVE and City of CB all
year long - Beach, Trails, Parks, Creeks Cleanup. Tsunami debris is
appearing on our beaches, please contact Jenee' for bags. How can I help? •
Information on significant Japanese tsunami debris sightings, including
personal “keepsakes” of value to a survivor in Japan - jewelry or
photographs clearly from the tsunami — may be reported to the NOAA Marine
Debris Program at disasterdebris at noaa.gov. •        When picking up marine
debris, put safety first. Do not touch sharp objects or sealed containers of
chemicals or full drums. Report drums and hazardous materials to the Oregon
Emergency Response System at 1-800-452-0311. Report large items like
refrigerators to the nearest State Park. Please bring a bag on your next
beach walk, pick up marine debris and recycle what you can!.

 

6.  JeneeP: Relay For Life - July 14 and 15 - Seaside High School. You can
start turning your donations to Jenee. We are also asking for items for the
Silent Auction.

 

7.  GeorgeV: Rich Mays, City Manager, will introduce new Police Chief, Jason
Schermerhorn at next week’s meeting. 

 

8.  JeffT: The Daily Astorian reported that CB is looking at cutting funds
to certain programs. Jeff is concerned that cuts to visitor related programs
would further hurt an already ailing economic environment.

 

9. Seaside is hosting 70 soccer teams this weekend. Traffic could be very
heavy.  

 

10. KathyK: At last night’s City Council Meeting it came out that WOW will
raise garbage rates to residents by 9+% and more to commercial users.  

 

11. GeorgeV: Seth Goldstein , DC (Chiropratic Physician, Labor Doula,
Independent Medical Examiner)  and Margaret Hammitt-McDonald, PhD (MSOM, ND,
LAc, Naturopathic Physician, Licensed Acupuncturist)  are opening
Dragonheart Herbs and Natural Medicine in Village Centre July 1.  You may
already know their faces from their performance at the Coaster Theatre. They
will begin preparing their new home next to Bella Espresso this weekend.
Stop by to welcome them.

 

12.  KathyK: City Council heard from the Task Force and discussed
preliminary plans for a new Grade School/Emergency Shelter/Arts
Center/Sports Center. Mike Clark has offered to put up a $500K structure –

 1.   BrianO: Stop by the CB Vacation Rental office any Friday between now
and Labor Day from noon to 1 for lunch off the grill. 

 

2.   RobinR/PatF : Interest in Real Estate is picking up.

 

3.   GeorgeV: Memorial Day Saturday was very crowded. Parking at Tolovana
Wayside was overflowing onto Hemlock. Traffic on Hemlock was moving slow.
Parking downtown was full. Sunday was not nearly as full. WendyH: Lodging
was full. KathyK: Retail was good but not great. BrianO: Vacation Rentals
set record. 

 

 4.   GeorgeV: Local artist Micah Cerelli’s Sandcastle poster is selling
very well. They were put out on Saturday afternoon and 10 were sold by 5pm.
There are two sizes. The  $45 18x24 size is a signed limited edition of 60.
The $20 12x16 size is unlimited. Get yours at the Chamber. 

 

5.  DebbieN: Sandcastle 2012 is a three day event. Read all about it at
www.cbsandcastle.com. Spread the word that registration in still open and
more plots are needed.

 

6.  SusanB: Coastal Oregon Literary Awards @ Coaster Theatre Thursday, May
31, 2012 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm presented by the Seaside High School Honors
English Class.

 

7.  JohnB: “Closer Than Ever” – a musical revue. Friday June 1st 7pm Coaster
Theatre. No Admission. Donations accepted. www.musiclastsalifetime.com. 

 

8.  CarmenS: Sea Ranch Resort is sponsoring a Beach Walk during Get Outdoors

9. CarmenS: The horses are here (Sea Ranch Stables) but most of the guides
are still in school. Once school is out, daily rides will begin.  

 

10. GeorgeV: George Vetter FotoArt has moved from downstairs at Village
Centre to upstairs off the skybridge. This is the 3rd move in 7 months. Each
move has been precipitated by new business moving into Village Centre. The
first was Pam Wideman’s Gigi Wilde’s – it’s a rare discovery. Followed by
Rheama Koonce’s Dog Photography and now (see #11)

garbage/recycling rates proposed by Western Oregon Waste.

Guard Flyover 12pm (approx).  Awards Announcement on The Beach. 3pm-6pm Art
Gallery Walk Downtown and Midtown. 7pm Bonfire On The Beach north of
Haystack at Surfsand Resort. 7:30pm Beckerheads at Coaster Theatre – 50’s &
60’s music. Sunday 8am Fun Run Registration. Visitor Center. 9am C’mon It’s

2.   RobinR: The Clatsop County Assn of Realtors awards three $1000
scholarships to Clatsop County graduating seniors ever year.

 4.   KathyK: Astor Street Opry Company presents 4 plays in one night –
original work from local playwright Keyaho Rohlfs. 129 W Bond St, Astoria

8.  GeorgeV: The only tuxedo rentals between Longview WA and Tillamook is
right here in Cannon Beach. El Mundo rented tuxedos starting in 1986 and
when the store closed last year, the tux rental business was preserved.
Weddings are the main tux events this time of year. Call Lo at 503-895-2663
to set up a time to be measured and to pick out a tux. On Facebook – El
Mundo Tuxedos. Prices start at $89.

 

9. GeorgeV: Plein Air & More is June 22-24. Artists, craftsmen, sculptors,
photographers & more will be on the streets, in the parks and elsewhere
creating. Stephanie at Primary Elements Gallery has 14 artists in town for
the event. Wendy at Ocean Lodge has artists coming to Ocean Lodge twice in

10. GeorgeV: A new show is hanging at George Vetter FotoArt, but those who

11. VianneP & JohnM: The North Coast Land Conservancy’s Summer Program of
tours are underway. Sign up to assure a spot. More info at

12. Delinda Morgan – Candidate for Congress. Delinda and husband Lance
(former Marine officer and helicopter pilot) raised their three sons in the
north end of Yamhill County. The youngest is now in college and Delinda is
ready to be “a work horse for prosperity, jobs and the constitution”. She
has worked running heavy equipment and was VP for a Class A Construction
Company. She stands for small government, less taxes and encourages everyone
to get out there and vote. www.DelindaMorganForCongress.org.  

 

13.  CarolHun: Ballots are out for Chamber Board Elections. Five positions
will be voted on. Six names are on the ballot – Jenee Pearce, Troy Crowe,
Sharon Major, Shari Russell, Robin Risley & George Vetter. Ballots must be
in by noon June 18th.  

 

14.  PatF: Pat is part of a group that worked with
www.JustLikeMyChildren.com to build a 4-room school in Uganda Africa. She
was one of 20 people who traveled there to see the completed school and
witness the gratitude and pride at the dedication of the school. Half of the
money/resources came from the community.
