7. KeithC: Tomorrow evening Jan 3 at 7pm is the World of Haystack Rock
library lecture, co-sponsored by the Friends of Haystack Rock and the Cannon
Beach Library. This lecture is entitled, "Elk, Salt and ‘a Monstrous Fish'
-- Lewis and Clark's Winter on the Oregon Coast" -- presented by Tom Wilson
(National Park Interpretive Ranger and retired Astoria Elementary School
Teacher), as Captain William Clark. At the library.

8. JasonS: Jan 21 is MLK day and there is no school. Local police and
rescue will use it as a training day at the school.

9. JasonS: Someone(s) has been scaling balconies and entering rooms that
are left unlocked to steal valuables. Keep doors locked. Report suspicious
activity to the police dept 503-436-2811.

10. JasonS: Keep your eyes open for counterfeit $100 bills. As per Sheri at
Bank of Astoria, you can purchase a counterfeit pen from Staples or Office
Depot. With the pen, if the bill turns brown you possibly have a counter
fit bill but beware that even if it turns yellow this doesn’t mean that you
don’t have a bleached bill. (This means that a real $10 can be made to look
like a $100) The bill should have a strip going through the bill and have a
wax feeling to the touch. It should also have a raised print like and
embossment, I always run my finger over the presidents collar. If you have
a black light it should pick up the fabric strips, the holograms and the
strip. (Note: the older bills do not have the strip). Most counterfeits
that I have seen are the older $100 and $20. If you have any question that
a bill maybe fraudulent please do not hesitate to inform your customer to go
to your local bank and have the bill exchanged at that time!

11. GeorgeV: Alaina and Marty Giguiere are opening Remax Coastal Advantage
in Village Centre. Contact Alaina 503-436-1126 or cell 503-440-3202

1. People talked about their favorite Christmas gift. They included a
peaceful day, time with family, a surfing lesson, a concert with family, a
Smart TV and more.

2. Steve/Wendy: Brian Doyle, author of “The Grail” was in town Dec 22 at
three location. At Cannon Beach Book Company, at the Wine Shack & at the
Ocean Lodge.

3. KathyK: Locals were out shopping local this past week. Many of the
sales over the weekend were to locals.

4. SteveS: Having the Wine Shack open on Christmas Day from 1-5pm proved
to be a good move. Fruffels was also open. www.BeachWine.com

5. JeneeP: SOLVE is sponsoring a beach cleanup Dec 29 from 10-12p. With
the current storms bringing in ship and Japanese debris, there should be
plenty to pick up. Check in at City Hall. See flyer at
www.cannon-beach.net/images/beachcleanupflyerdec2012.pdf. Visit Solve at
www.solv.org

6. GeorgeV: Wednesday Morning Meetings have now passed the 3 year
milestone. Not a single Wednesday in 3 years has there not been a WMM. The
venue has moved from the Ocean Lodge, to EVOO, to Pig n Pancake, to Tolovana
Inn, to the History Center, to Mo’s and now to Pizza a Fetta. Coffee , ideas
and conversation have flowed freely for 150+ meetings and counting.

7. SharonV: The votes have been tallied. The Landing took best in the
business category and Mike Balzer took best in homes. Find the link to many
of the displays at www.Cannon-Beach.net.

8. WendyH: Hotels were not full over Christmas weekend. Kathy/George:
Shoppers were few.

9. WendyH: It looks like lodging will be near full this weekend.

10. SharonV: A New Years Eve Party to benefit the CB Parent Teacher
Organization’s “Save our School” drive will be at the Chamber Community Hall
207 N Spruce Dec 31. Music, Fun, Food, & Refreshments. Two Seatings: 7-9pm &
9-Midnight. Tickets $15 per person. To Purchase Tickets: 503.436.2928 or
503.440.8511

11. GeorgeV: George Vetter FotoArt has a selection of Cannon Beach in Snow
images available in folios for $25. EricJ won one at today’s meeting by
coming the closest in a guess of the average number of unique monthly
visitors to www.Cannon-Beach.net in the last 13 months as reported by
www.compete.com. The correct answer is 4660. Eric guess of 533 wasn’t very
close, but closer than everyone else.

12. GeorgeV: After placing an order for a computer online this past week,
George received a call from the merchant saying that the shipping address
could not be verified. The merchant suggested calling the 800 number on the
back of the card and ask to have the shipping address added. But the card, a
US Bank Visa Debit, could only have one address associated with it and that
is to be the billing address. The computer company only ships by UPS and UPS
will not deliver to a PO Box. But the credit card people only send by US
Mail and for that in Cannon Beach, you need a PO Box. This is not an unusual
dilemma for CB residents and normally online vendors are able to verify
(maybe they just risk it) a shipping address. For the sake of those of us
who live where home delivery of mail is not available, I would hope that
credit card companies would accommodate both a billing and shipping address

13. JeneeP- Pacific Alarm: With the new technology available, installing
cameras in your home or business that you can monitor with your cell phone
or a remote computer is both affordable and a good investment. Jeneé
