Judi Mahoney of Healthy Kids of Oregon Judy is the Outreach and
Enrollment worker for Clatsop County health and Human Services. She can be

2. JudiM: Healthy Kids is putting on a Soccer Jamboree and Health and
Resource Fair on June22 from 10am - 1pm in conjunction with Lower Columbia
Youth Soccer Association (Warrenton). Tables and booths are available. She
is also looking for sponsors (many levels), prizes, food, etc. A signup
sheet was passed around the room and many people signed up to help. Contact

3. MaryF: Photo Management class given in Seaside on Feb 9th. Customer
service class given in Seaside Feb 19th and Astoria Feb 28th. Contact Mary

4. WendyH: Young Life of the North Coast is having a fundraiser Crab Feed
Feb 9th at Bob Chisholm in Seaside from 4-8pm. Locally donated crab with all
the fixings!
5. EricJ: The survey is done and strategy is now being developed. The
marketing committee is hard at work and Sharon will be back next week on a
part time basis.
6. BrianO: Reservations for Yoga and Savor Cannon Beach are starting to
pick up as are summertime reservations. Retail reports good weekends.
Restaurants open are doing well.
7. Nala: HRAP Beach programs will start March 2. May be on the beach for
Presidents Day weekend, weather permitting. Invitation to everyone for the
OPEN HOUSE at newly remodeled HRAP offices, Feb 16th from 10am - 4pm.
Snacks, raffle prizes, information videos and so much more!
8. JimK: Starting Jan 31, Icefire will be selling tickets to win a piece of
art from the Northern Lights series. Proceeds to go to Friends of Haystack
Rock. Drawing at Savor Cannon Beach Weekend in March.
9. TracyA: 75-80 people attended the Otter 501 screening. After the movie
PSU Professor Dr. Debbie Duffield and Columbia River Maritime Museum
educator Nathan Sandels answered questions. Many good questions were asked
by the young people in the crowd. Event raised $300 for Friends of Haystack
Rock. Many thanks to Wine Shack Steve and Maryann for donating their
services!
10. BonnieM: received a call from the volunteer beach cleanup committee
after reports from city workers that there is a lot of debris coming in.
She picked up a big bag in a short walk. Solve bags available throughout
town and at City Hall. A container for debris is located at the end of 2nd
Street on the beach.
11. Billy Joe: Mo’s will reopen Feb 14th after a major remodel. Still hiring
in all departments. Mo's offers education scholarships and 401K benefits.

12. Misty: March 2nd, from 7-8:30pm the Inn at Cannon Beach will host a
casual and fun wine tasting event with Nehalem Bay Winery in conjunction
with an exciting book signing opportunity with highly publicized author of
Animal Wise, Virginia Morrell. Northwest by Northwest Gallery will also be
on hand to display bronze sculpture by Georgia Gerber known for her Tufted
Puffin sculpture.
13. JeneeP: Kick off for Relay for Life was this week. Form a team or join
hers! Event is in Astoria this summer. Thursday January 31 from 10:30-4
p.m. at the Seaside Convention Center. Project Homeless Connect is a
one-day, one-stop event for homeless families and individuals. Last year
over 200 people attended. Even more are expected people this year. The goal
is to reach the homeless in our county whether they are living with family
and friends, in their cars, or in other unsuitable housing.
15. WendyH: Leadercast event is forming, looking for sponsors. Contact

16. RyanH: Children's Center Casino Night is Feb 9th 7-10pm. Blackjack,

17: JeneeP: attended a governmental meeting in Portland concerning an
ordinance in Portland (at this time) about employers having to pay employees
for sick days. It was discussed at WMM and general consensus was that it is
good to have a watch dog for laws that affect businesses.
18: KeithC: The World of Haystack Rock lecture series continues Feb 7,
7-8:30pm at the Cannon Beach Library. This month Charlie Plybon, an Oregon
Field Manager for Surfrider Foundation, will give a talk entitled "A Rising
Tide: Responding to Marine Debris in Oregon.

8. Stephanie/Jenee: Saturday Jan 26 is the exhibit opening of "A Journey

10. EricJ: The Chamber Board and Director spent 4 hours yesterday in a goal
setting session moderated by North Coast Family Fellowship senior pastor Dr.
Glen B Maiden. Both 1-year and 5-year goals were set. Goals include bringing
back the Auction and paying down the building debt, increasing FaceBook
outreach, building trust, increasing collaboration with non-chamber events,
increasing membership participation, increasing collaboration with
neighboring communities, development of a targeted marketing plan,
increasing use of the community hall, increasing communication with members,
recognition and rewarding excellence in business and volunteerism, evolving
into role of conduit for all Cannon Beach events, having an events
coordinator on staff, developing new off-season events, becoming a valuable
resource to members and the community through business mentoring and
collaboration and providing benefits/incentives to volunteers
11. New at today’s meeting besides MichelleBW mentioned above, was Jean
Hand. She just started at the Conference Center as their volunteer
coordinator. She will be the liason between the Conference Center and the
community and plans to attend Wednesday Morning Meetings. This is a slow
time of the year for retreats, but even so, they had 1000 people through
last week.

14. A documentary premier of "Jungleers In Battle" featuring oral histories
of 41st Infantry troops from Oregon in World War II will be shown in Cannon
Beach at the Cannon Beach History Center at 6pm on January 17, 2013. The
documentary is 67 minutes long.

15. Jenee:P: Thursday January 31 from 10:30-4 p.m. at the Seaside Convention
Center. Project Homeless Connect is a one-day, one-stop event for homeless
families and individuals. Last year over 200 people attending and we are
expecting even more people this year. The goal is to reach the homeless in
our county whether they are living with family and friends, in their cars,

16. WendyH: The city council of voted 4-1 to include an expansion of last
year’s bow-hunting-by-permit-only policy in the five year management plan
for the Ecola Creek Forest Reserve. While the interim policy put into place
in August only allowed bow hunting, the new policy will also allow shotguns
with slug rounds. See Gazette article at

17. GeorgeV: Cannon Beach Treasure Company is moving to a larger space into
half of the former Rare Discovery space next to the Local Scoop. Sharon
Amber has moved downstairs at Sandpiper Sq into the former Yuletides space
after they moved to The Landing into the former Heritage Gallery space.
Currently there is space for lease next to the Treasure Company’s new space
and the space they are leaving. Village Centre has 1700 sq ft downstairs in
El Mundo’s former space and 740 sq ft upstairs. Contact George 503-739-1415.

1. MelodyC: The Maryland house has sold and Melody and husband are moving
to Cannon Beach. The Nursing Museum will be open May – Sept this year with
special events all week during National Nurses Week in May.

4. JeneeP: World renowned jazz guitarist John Stowell will make third
appearance in Cannon Beach at the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum on
January 4th at 7 p.m. John Stowell has traveled the world performing for
many years, he was the first American Jazz performer to appear in Russia
after the fall of the Iron Curtain and he continued to sell out
performances there for two decades after.

5. JeneeP: Jenee coordinated a SOLVE sponsored beach cleanup Dec 29. 25
people signed up at City Hall and about 35 people in all collected 100

6. Tolovana Arts Colony welcomes Mitchell Vines, Martin Hebert, & Carin
Miller Packwood to the Coaster Theatre this Friday, January 4th at 7:30PM.
It promises to be a very lively program for piano, oboe & bassoon, featuring
the wildly virtuosic trio by Francis Poulenc plus works by Vivaldi,
Schumann, and Saint-Saëns. We are also fortunate to host local Cannon
Beach guitarist Wes Wahrmund in the foyer when doors open at 7PM. Enjoy the
preshow, wine bar from the Wine Shack and hosted hors d'oeuvres from
Simplicity of Good Taste until the concert starts. Meet the Musicians post
concert and toast the evening with complimentary dessert. A special treat -
works by concert poster artist David Jonathan Marshall will be on view in

7. KeithC: Tomorrow evening Jan 3 at 7pm is the World of Haystack Rock
library lecture, co-sponsored by the Friends of Haystack Rock and the Cannon
Beach Library. This lecture is entitled, "Elk, Salt and ‘a Monstrous Fish'
-- Lewis and Clark's Winter on the Oregon Coast" -- presented by Tom Wilson
(National Park Interpretive Ranger and retired Astoria Elementary School
Teacher), as Captain William Clark. At the library.
8. JasonS: Jan 21 is MLK day and there is no school. Local police and
rescue will use it as a training day at the school.
9. JasonS: Someone(s) has been scaling balconies and entering rooms that
are left unlocked to steal valuables. Keep doors locked. Report suspicious
activity to the police dept 503-436-2811.
10. JasonS: Keep your eyes open for counterfeit $100 bills. As per Sheri at
Bank of Astoria, you can purchase a counterfeit pen from Staples or Office
Depot. With the pen, if the bill turns brown you possibly have a counter
fit bill but beware that even if it turns yellow this doesn’t mean that you
don’t have a bleached bill. (This means that a real $10 can be made to look
like a $100) The bill should have a strip going through the bill and have a
wax feeling to the touch. It should also have a raised print like and
embossment, I always run my finger over the presidents collar. If you have
a black light it should pick up the fabric strips, the holograms and the
strip. (Note: the older bills do not have the strip). Most counterfeits
that I have seen are the older $100 and $20. If you have any question that
a bill maybe fraudulent please do not hesitate to inform your customer to go
to your local bank and have the bill exchanged at that time!
