Next Wednesday Morning Meeting – Dec 18, 2013, at Pizza a Fetta, 8am.

1.   City Manager Rich Mays introduced Philomena Lloyd – the new Farmer’s
Market Manager replacing Jennifer Williamson. Her experience includes 8
years as an event planner with The Natural Nook in Gearhart, 11 years of
having her own gallery – Exposure Art – in Seaside, 9 years social services
program director in Carlsbad CA. Contact her at 503-436-8044 or

2.   EricJ: Coaster Construction is hosting the Dec 19th Business After
Hours. 5-7pm at their showroom on Elk Creek Road (above the RV Park)

3.  EricJ: Get your lights and décor up. There will be a winner for Business
and a winner for Residential. Voting will take place on Facebook –
www.facebook.com/HaystackHolidaysCannonBeach and by paper ballot at the
Chamber. Voting ends Dec 20th.

4.   AmyR: Cocoa and pictures with Santa Dec 14, 1-4pm at the Chamber - a
fundraiser for the Children's Ctr - $5 suggested donation. 503-436-1040

5.  JohnB: Chorus Holiday Concerts Dec 13 in Astoria, Dec 14 in Cannon Beach
– see www.cannonbeachchorus.org.

6. EricJ/GeorgeV: Jay Schwehr was remembered at Saturday’s Lamplighting. Jay
passed away Nov 23. He was Cannon Beach’s faithful lamplighter for nearly 30
years – dressed in black with high boots and a black top hat made from a
flower pot – something few knew. Jay was president of the Chamber of
Commerce in 1977 and his wife Rene ran the Information Center. Jay called
himself “The Kid” and was a regular at the Elementary school as the Easter
Bunny and many other characters he played to entertain the kids. He drove
the Steidel/Nelson train in the Sandcastle parade for years pulling cars
filled with excited kids. He will by long remembered by those who knew him. 

 

7. RichM: Lodging Tax dollars for the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter were up – 5.4%.
Short term rentals were up double digits.    

 

8. RichM: The City now owns the 55 acres that is above tsunami predictions
and will begin moving facilities, including the CB Academy to this high
ground.

 

9. RichM: Sam Steidel has resigned from the City Council. A replacement will
be appointed. If interested, send a letter of intention to council at cbor.us.
Steidel intends to run for Mayor next year and must be off the council for a
year because of term limits. 

 

10. RyanH: The Coaster Theatre Playhouse presents an intimate evening of
song to celebrate the longest night of the year and the return of the light
– Kathryn Claire with special guests Ara Lee, Zak Borden, Don Henson,
Annalee Driscoll. Dec 22 at 730p. $15. 503-436-1242 www.coastertheartre.com 

 

11. EricJ: There are still 2013 Cannon Beach Magazines to distribute. Pick
them up at the Chamber. The 2014 magazine will be out in Feb/Mar. Let the
chamber know now if your business info has changed. Contact

Hear a sampling Dec 7, 4pm at the Lamplighting at Sandpiper Sq

2.   Part of Haystack Holidays, the annual Lamplighting will be Saturday Dec
7 at 4pm at Sandpiper Sq. with refreshments upstairs immediately following.
Bill Steidel will sing “Christmas in Our Hometown”, Members of CB Chorus
will perform and the children’s choir from the Coaster’s “White Christmas”
will perform. Wreathmaking at the Chamber will also be on the 7th. See
www.cannonbeach.org.  

 

3.  KathyK: Mimosa Madness (last Friday) had shoppers out at 8am taking
advantage of offerings at many shops. Gift wrapping at the Coaster Theatre
had about 30 people taking advantage. This needs more PR next year. RyanH:
Yuletides set a single day record that day. "White Christmas" at Coaster
Theatre sold out both Friday and Saturday.

5.  Elaine via EricJ: Join us this Friday, December 6th for the Museum's
annual Appreciation Party.  The festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. tasty
treats from Season's Cafe and EVOO, sparkling wine donated by the Wine
Shack, and mingling with friends (old and new!)  Enjoy your favorite vintage
holiday tunes from D.J. Nacho Bizznezz - Deano, Bing Crosby, and Frank
Sinatra.  

 

6. EricJ: Coaster Construction is hosting the Dec 19th Business After Hours.
5-7pm at their showroom on Elk Creek Road (above the RV Park)

7. WendyH: At last night's City Council meeting, some folks were recognized
for volunteerism. Wendy gave special recognition to Jenee Pearce for all
that she gives to the community.   

 

8. A memorial for Jay Schwehr ("The Kid"), our volunteer Lamplighter for 30
some years will be Friday 10am at St Peter the Fisherman Church in Arch
Cape.

7. SusanB: Dec 3 all day will be Emergency Preparedness Day on KMUN
Community Radio. Tune in    

 

8. SteveS: Shop Small Saturday is this week. AMEX sponsors an annual “Shop
Small” campaign to promote shopping at small businesses. Steven Sinkler from
the Wine Shack shared more mats, signs, magnets, etc and reminded all that
locals get a 10% discount at the Wine Shack. If not recognized, ask. 

 

9.  SteveS: If you are running low on wine on Thanksgiving Day, no worry.
The Wine Shack will be open from 11a to 2pm. 503-436-1100  

 

10. WendyH/JohnB: The annual Festival of Trees benefit for Providence
Hospital begins Friday Dec 6 with a concert by the Cannon Beach Chorus at SS
Convention Ctr.  The tree auction is Sat the 7th at the same locale. This is
a fun fundraiser that brings in $100K. 

 

11. Part of Haystack Holidays, the annual Lamplighting will be Saturday Dec
7 at 4pm at Sandpiper Sq. with refreshments upstairs immediately following.

Inn. Christmas Carols with Paul Dueber and friends and it will end with a

13. EmmasL: Dogs Allowed offers 10% off to locals. For after hour needs, you

14. KathyK: 29 businesses have signed up for Mimosa Madness –
www.facebook.com/MimosaMadness. All (and more) will open Friday after
Thanksgiving at 8am for Cannon Beach’s version of Black Friday. Many great
deals will be offered early and some may last through the day. Send your
customers to the Coaster Theatre for gift wrapping (donation suggested) on
that day from 9am to 2pm.   

 

15. Restaurants open Thanksgiving include The Lumberyard, Wayfarer and
Morris’s

 

16. GeorgeV: George Vetter FotoArt will be moving/consolidating into the
upstairs space at Village Centre soon. There’s not enough room, so the
Moving Sale starts tomorrow morning at 8am with Mimosa Madness. Deep
discounts on giclee prints and more.

 

17. BrianO: Found (in midtown) has 25 trees coming. Reserve yours now. Ann
