9. GeorgeV: Alaina and Marty are growing their RE/MAX staff and moving into
larger quarters next door where Mary Smith Interiors most recently

10. SamanthaF: Haystack Rock Awareness Program is gearing up for 2014.

property to the City of Cannon Beach. This is the northern portion and does

8. JohnB, JeanieMc, GeorgeV: Approx 120 people crowded into and outside the
Seaside School District office last night to voice their support or
opposition of the Cannon Beach Academy. Supporters far outweighed those
opposed. Most supporters did not get a chance to speak as the time for
testimony was limited. If the School District does not approve, the Academy
can go to the State School Board. Schools receive tax dollars in relation
to their enrollment. For administrative and special services, the Seaside
School District would retain 20% of dollars coming through them to the CB
Academy. Once approved, the CB Academy must come up with funds to prepare a
temporary building for classes this fall and then come up with funds to
complete a new school on property recently acquired by the city above the
tsunami zone.

Next Wednesday Morning Meeting – Jan 15, 2014, at Pizza a Fetta, 8am.



1.   Annie McIntyre and Pat Lehman,  of the American Association of
University Women presented info on the WINGS Conference - Women Interested
in Going to School. Since 2002, this conference has been held each year and
has assisted over 500 women pursue their education. Registration is free
with lunch and daycare included. Saturday March 1 from 8am to 330p at
Clatsop Community College, 2nd Floor, Columbia Hall. Register at

including many local and area businesses and individuals.



2.   JasonS: When questioned, Jason said that they have a video from a
police car of a vehicle leaving the Stephanie Inn at the time of the
robbery. It is a CA plate beginning with a 6 which is a rented car. The
video is being enhanced to try to discern the rest of the numbers. There
have been similar robberies in the state. The ski-masked robber demanded
only cash and took off with an undisclosed amount. Jason encouraged
businesses to install video cameras.

3.  BetsyA: Information about the "Let'er Buck Chili Feed" is word of
mouth.  It is next Tuesday, Jan. 14th, at the Cannon Beach Community Center
(AKA The Chamber), 7-8:30PM.  Admission at the door, $10.00.  Proceeds go
to defray costs of Seaside High School students going to the National
Cowboy Poets Gathering in Elko, Nevada at the end of this month.  Live
music, it should be fun, and it's a good cause.



4.   BetsyA: Geologist Tom Horning will be talking at the Seaside Library

Seely - Whisper Down the Years

Slavin's novel follows a young woman, Anne Holloway, as she journeys from
the lower forty-eight up ro Alasks to find her biological father. Whisper
Down the Years is a literary mystery set in Orkney Island off the coast of
Scotland where protagonist, Finn Ross, has retreated to find clarity about
his dissolving career and marriage. Nancy Slavin and Elia Seely are authors
and also the creators and publishers.

7. SusanB: Wildlife Center of the North Coast released a beautiful Greater
White-Fronted Goose back to his flock at the Cannon Beach lagoons after a
year at the Center. He was found on the beach, weak and starving for
unknown reasons. You never saw a happier goose, charging out of the carrier
and then soaring over the lagoons several times before gliding down to the
water, all the time "talking" to the other White-Fronted geese watching
from the access road between the ponds. The flock, 12 with the addition of
our goose is down in numbers after arriving for the first time 4 years ago.
In the past years the flock has been in the 20s and 30s which has included
several first year geese..



8. SusanB: The City of Cannon Beach seeks qualified applicants for the
Volunteer Coordinator and Education Intern position for the Haystack Rock
Awareness Program (HRAP). This part- time position runs February - October
2014 under the supervision of HRAP Coordinator. Application forms are

6. EricJ/GeorgeV: Jay Schwehr was remembered at Saturday’s Lamplighting.
Jay passed away Nov 23. He was Cannon Beach’s faithful lamplighter for
nearly 30 years – dressed in black with high boots and a black top hat made
from a flower pot – something few knew. Jay was president of the Chamber of
Commerce in 1977 and his wife Rene ran the Information Center. Jay called
himself “The Kid” and was a regular at the Elementary school as the Easter
Bunny and many other characters he played to entertain the kids. He drove
the Steidel/Nelson train in the Sandcastle parade for years pulling cars
filled with excited kids. He will by long remembered by those who knew him.



7. RichM: Lodging Tax dollars for the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter were up – 5.4%.
Short term rentals were up double digits.



8. RichM: The City now owns the 55 acres that is above tsunami predictions
and will begin moving facilities, including the CB Academy to this high
ground.



9. RichM: Sam Steidel has resigned from the City Council. A replacement
will be appointed. If interested, send a letter of intention to
council at cbor.us. Steidel intends to run for Mayor next year and must be off
the council for a year because of term limits.



10. RyanH: The Coaster Theatre Playhouse presents an intimate evening of

advantage of offerings at many shops. Gift wrapping at the Coaster Theatre
had about 30 people taking advantage. This needs more PR next year. RyanH:
Yuletides set a single day record that day. "White Christmas" at Coaster
Theatre sold out both Friday and Saturday.

some years will be Friday 10am at St Peter the Fisherman Church in Arch
Cape.

2.   JohnB: Chorus Concerts Dec 6, 13, 14 – see www.cannonbeachchorus.org.

3.  RyanH: You may still be able to get tickets to White Christmas for this
weekend. Better chance for Saturday than Friday. www.coastertheatre.com



4.   SusanB: The Library lecture series is on the second WEDNESDAY of the
month. See www.friendsofhaystackrock.org.



5.  SusanB: Gift Idea – a plush puffin for $20 to benefit Friends of
Haystack Rock. Find them around town.



6. MargoD/KathyK: KathyK: Light your place up for the Holidays. Entry forms
at the Chamber or at www.cannonbeach.org. You must register by November 29.
There will be a winner for Business and a winner for Residential. Voting
will take place on Facebook – www.facebook.com/HaystackHolidaysCannonBeach and
by paper ballot at the Chamber.



7. SusanB: Dec 3 all day will be Emergency Preparedness Day on KMUN
Community Radio. Tune in



8. SteveS: Shop Small Saturday is this week. AMEX sponsors an annual “Shop
Small” campaign to promote shopping at small businesses. Steven Sinkler
from the Wine Shack shared more mats, signs, magnets, etc and reminded all
that locals get a 10% discount at the Wine Shack. If not recognized, ask.



9.  SteveS: If you are running low on wine on Thanksgiving Day, no worry.
The Wine Shack will be open from 11a to 2pm. 503-436-1100



10. WendyH/JohnB: The annual Festival of Trees benefit for Providence
Hospital begins Friday Dec 6 with a concert by the Cannon Beach Chorus at
SS Convention Ctr.  The tree auction is Sat the 7th at the same locale.
This is a fun fundraiser that brings in $100K.
