discussed included getting people onto the beach faster by having more
people at the entrance to inform them about tides, etc. Coordinating with
State Highway to get info on Highway 26 about delays on 101. Even though
cars were backed up on 101 coming south, north was moving until you got

1. JimP: Sandcastle 2014 was a huge success. Other than slow moving traffic
on 101 from about 12 - 2pm or so, the weekend was enjoyed by all. Friday
night was the dinner and the parade, Saturday was the contest, concert and
bonfire and Sunday was the 5K Fun Run. All were well attended. As for
highway traffic, JeffTerHar reported when he came over from Seaside at 1030
am, cars were backed up coming down the ramp into town. It appeared that
the "Fill the Boot" campaign at the bottom of the hill was the cause. At
2pm he had to be back in Seaside and at that time traffic was backed up on
101 coming into Cannon Beach to Highway 26. As he got closer to Seaside,
traffic was backed up getting into Seaside too. He said that happens almost
every summer weekend. Jeff made a point of saying that our Sandcastle Day
traffic was similar to what you find getting into Portand most mornings. At
4pm Jeff came back to Cannon Beach and drove straight into town without
delay. Business at Ter Hars was very good - as it was at all businesses who
were in attendance at the meeting. Pizza a Fetta set an all time record.
Because of some concern by Mayor Mike Morgan and people who complained to
him about the traffic, businesses are encouraged to write
cityhall at ci.cannon-beach.or.us to stress the value of the Cannon Beach
Sandcastle Contest and a healthy crowd to the economic viability of our
business community. There was a consensus of those in attendance that this
year was the "Perfect Storm" for a big crowd. 1. 50th Anniversary. 2. Great
weather leading up to an on Saturday. 3. Recognition by State Parks as an
Oregon Heritage Tradition. Hopes are not high to see this kind of a crowd
in the near future.

4. GeorgeV: One item on the agenda for the City Council's 530pm July 8th
worksession will be the the timing of the Sandcastle Contest.
5. StephanieA. It's a whole different crowd and not even similar in size to
Sandcastle, but come rain or shine, artists and art lovers will be all over
town this weekend for the 6th Annual Plein Air & More. On Friday from 5-7pm
thirteen galleries will have up to three artists each at a special show at
the Chamber Community Hall. The Cannon Beach Gallery Group transforms the
Hall into an attractive gallery. Wine and finger food will be served on the
back deck under the protection of a large tent. Some of those artists will
be out painting (and more) already on Friday and all will be out on
Saturday and Sunday creating while you watch. On Saturday from 5-7pm there
will be gallery receptions showcasing completed works by their artists. The
show at the Chamber Hall continues on Sunday with new works and artists are
back creating on the streets and the beach. More info and maps available
in galleries and around town. And at www.cbgallerygroup.com.

7. TracyA/JimP/All: The last of the Spring Cruise Ship Tour buses have come
and gone. They will be back in August/Sept as they transition back to the
Caribbean. Six ships sent buses with an average of about 100 people per
ship to Cannon Beach and Seaside. This is an opportunity to leave a
favorable impression on first time visitors who have but one hour to soak
us in, but who will come back if we treat them right. Bruce's Candy Kitchen
supplied taffy and small plastic bags to fit 3 pieces of taffy which were
handed to visitors as they stepped off the buses. We need to be better
organized when 8 ships make their way back south. KathyK: There is a group
in Astoria - Cruise Hosts - that we should coordinate and work with.
Besides the Cruise Ships heading to and from Alaska, there are American
Empress riverboat cruises that come from Lewiston ID down the Columbia to
Astoria They too offer bus tours, but have not been coming to Cannon Beach.
8. GeorgeV: Look for an email from the Chamber asking whether you would pay
a minimum of $15 per month to have your business name, address, phone in a
full page ad once per month in the weekly Coast Weekend. If enough (approx
fifty $15 advertisers, fewer if larger ads) people respond, the Chamber
will add $150. Coast Weekend will then be brought back to town.
9. CarrieP: Cannon Beach Magazine is now taking ad commitments for the 2015
Magazine. Save 5% by reserving your space by June 30th and paying by July
