2. New Today: Aria Walker L.Ac (Licensed Acupuncturist) comes to us with
her two cats and Blue&Gold Macaw from Alaska where she had clinics in
Anchorage and Palmer. Originally from Ohio, schooled in Florida, she chose
Cannon Beach after finding the people she met here warm, welcoming and

3. GeorgeV: The Labor Day Crowd didn't go home so quickly as in past years.
There was still a good crowd in town yesterday (Tuesday) and again today.

sponsored by the History Center. Volunteers are needed. Contact
503-436-9301. Saturday includes a luncheon, self-guided home and garden
tour and reception and concert. Sunday is the brunch and garden

5. JennieM: The City Manager Search is down to four candidates. All four
will be in town Sept 3-5. The city is hosting an open house at the Surfsand
Ballroom for citizens to meet Roy Eckert, Steve Golnar, Jon Hanken and
Brant Kucera. Thursday Sept 4 from 6-8pm. Meet the candidates. Leave your
feedback for the Council on comment card.
6. GeorgeV: Clatsop Community College is seeking $8M to match $8M from the
State. The $16M will be used for redevelopment of the 93yr old Patriot
Hall. The measure will be on the Nov 4th ballot asking voters to approve a
bond that will cost the average homeowner an additional $21 per year.

8. GeorgeV: Some neighborhood residents have reported seeing these normally
nocturnal wood rats during daylight hours. This is a sign of large numbers.
These rats live in wood piles and the like and feed off seed and whatever
else they can find - including what you put out for birds and pets. Talk
to your neighbors and if your neighborhood is affected, coordinate with
others to control this with a unified effort. This species can reproduce
monthly with litters of up to 20 - so don't wait.
9. JohnB The Cannon Beach Chorus begins practice Sept 8 at 630pm at the
Community Church. Rehearsals are Mondays from 630-830pm. see www.

10. Sally Steidel passed out posters by Bill for the Cannon Beach Academy.
The poster shows a group of people with the wording "We did it once, We can
do it again". The Cannon Beach Academy has promises for $418K and needs
$82K more to show local support before the appeal that will be considered

2. JasonS: The two-year old K-9 Belgian Mellinois (a shepherd dog), has
been named Cash by Officer Josh Gregory. Josh will begin 4 weeks of
training with Cash next week in Beaverton. Cash is trained in search,
rescue and narcotics, but not marijuana.
3. JulieW: After CCC changed the curriculum for the Small Business
Management Class offered for years around the country, a group formed a
non-profit corporation - Small Business Management Program Inc - to carry
the original program on. The class runs three years (Oct - May), but one
may sign up for just a year. There is one class per month and a visit to
the business by instructor Jim Entler once per month. For info or to

1. JasonS: Our police department will be involved in the recent homicide
investigation thru the end of the trial.
2. JasonS: The K-9 fund goal has been reached. The $2500 from the Chili
Cookoff finished it off. Deco, a Belgian Mellinois (a shepherd dog), will
train with Officer Josh Gregory in September. Deco is trained in search &
rescue and narcotics, not marijuana. Deco will be on duty with Josh
starting in Oct or Nov. He will be introduced to the public around that
time.
3. JimP: The Information Center has been very busy. Staff, Suzanne
Williams, Dave Springer and Jim are working hard to keep up. You can help.

than expected this summer. EmmasL: Having just opened there is nothing to
compare, but business has been good. MaryAnnS: Wine Shack business has been

to turn people away. JonJ: Seaside Gilbert Inn and adjoining property have
been full. WendyH: Ocean Lodge has had cancellation that typically would
get filled but haven't been this August.

in Astoria yesterday as part of a 12 stop statewide survey of what local
needs are. Nearly 100 people attended, many from timber and fishing.

12. GeorgeV/WendyH: The City Council will conduct phone interviews with 8
select candidates for City Manager. Only one is from Oregon. Others are
spread out across the country.

deserve praise for the manner in which they handled last week's awful event
at the Surfsand Resort and the ensuing media frenzy.

7. JasonS: There have been three burglaries to vacation homes up on Ecola
Park Road in past two weeks. Please advise people to use timers to have
lights go on and off.
8. MikeM: The Food Pantry is losing use of its rooms at the Bible Church.
They need a location that has parking, is on ground floor, has power, is
approx 800 sq ft. A current option being sought is the kitchen at the
School gym. Suggested were the Emergency Preparedness location on 101 at
Tolovana and the empty building across from Surfcrest Market.

10. KathyK: Monday is Coast Guard Day. We have quite a few of these young
people and their families in the County. Welcome them.
11. JohnB: George Fox Univ comes to Cannon Beach each summer with their
Choral Conductors Workshop. They will be holding classes at the Community
Church starting Monday Aug 4, but their Friday concert will be at the North
Coast Fellowship in Seaside since our gym is not available this year.

12. MikeM: The City Manager search had 47 applicants. The group has been
narrowed down to 8. The Council will now decide which of the 8 will be
interviewed. It is hoped to hire by November.
13. GeorgeV: A visitor reported that they had spent 40 minutes (two
20-minute stints) waiting in line to get past a single construction project
