17.  GeorgeV: Thanksgiving weekend will be the last weekend for George
Vetter FotoArt. The gallery is closing after 10 years. There is still
plenty to pick from and you can still name your price.

Friday and runs weekends thru Dec 28th.Disney’s Beauty and the Beast takes
place in a small provincial town in France and begins when a prince is
transformed into a hideous beast by an enchantress as punishment for his
cruel and selfish ways. When Maurice – the town’s eccentric inventor –
becomes lost in the woods on the way to the fair to show off his latest
invention, he seeks shelter in an old castle, only to find the master of
the castle is a horrible beast that takes him captive. The inventor’s
daughter, an adventurous young woman named Belle, trades herself for her

1. New at Today's Meeting: Court Carrier is the new Chamber Director.
Yesterday was his first day on the job. Court is married with two children
- a 24 yr old son in Beaverton at Digimark and a 30 yr old daughter
teaching in Aloha HS.  His father owned a Personnel Systems company. Court
has spent his entire life in hospitality. Started off with a job at Glacier
Lodge. Spent 27 years at Mt Hood College and was involved in the Jazz Fest.
Has owned a second home in Cannon Beach for 5 years. His realtor - Robin
Risley. He will spend 4 days a week here and three days in Portland
assisting his brother who recently suffered a debilitating spinal injury.
For now, Court will be working on Stormy Weather Arts Festival with Jim and
getting out to meet people. He will work with the the Board and members to
come up with a strategic plan. Mark your calendar for next Tuesday Oct 28

3. JimP: Stormy Weather Arts Festival is Nov 7-9. The Friday Night "Art in

10. JerryM: Surfsand Resort's 17 Annual Dog Show was Saturday. In spite of
the wind, nearly 100 dogs participated in the fun and fundraiser for the

6.1% in August - the latest number out - lower than the year before (6.7%)

1. GeorgeV: After two missed WMMs while in Charleston SC, at a college
fraternity scholarship fundraiser, I am back in my Cannon Beach role. Let

2. GeorgeV: A lease has been signed for the remainder of the space
available at Village Centre. To make room for this new business which is to
open in March, George Vetter FotoArt will be closing in December after 10
years. But not before a big sale and celebration. I will still have an
online presence and will seek to have my photography in a Cannon Beach
gallery. I will continue my portrait and commercial work along with my
printing. The new business has asked to remain anonymous for now. Stay
tuned!

people. This was the 24th Annual Tour. It included Nygaard Logging, Cannon
Beach's Ecola Creek Forest Reserve, a logging operation by Campbell Global

being organized.

3. JimP: Plans are underway for Stormy Weather Arts Festival (SWAF) The
Friday night event will be different than in past years. It will be called
Art in Action (not Quickdraw). There will not be a live auction, just a
silent auction. The focus will be on art and artists with entertainment
mixed in. Up to 8 artists will demo their work. Premium tickets will be
sold which allow the holder to get early entry and access to their artist..
Eight premium tickets per artist will be sold. Regular tickets are $55 ($99

4. ElaineM: Get tickets now for the 11th Annual Cottage Tour Sept 13, 14
sponsored by the History Center. Volunteers are needed.  Contact

confirmed, the name will be announced, The new city manager will begin no
later than Nov 15.

6. GeorgeV: Gary Hayes is planning a new event for Savor Cannon Beach
on Friday March 13  - an Art and Wine Walk - an exclusive innovation-only
event. 300 tickets will be offered through participating galleries and to
Savor Cannon Beach full festival pass holders. RSVP required. Wineries will

her two cats and Blue&Gold Macaw from Alaska where she had clinics in
Anchorage and Palmer. Originally from Ohio, schooled in Florida, she chose

5. JennieM: The City Manager Search is down to four candidates. All four
will be in town  Sept 3-5. The city is hosting an open house at
theSurfsand Ballroom for citizens to meet Roy Eckert, Steve Golnar,
Jon Hanken and Brant Kucera. Thursday Sept 4 from 6-8pm. Meet the
candidates. Leave your feedback for the Council on comment card.

6. GeorgeV: Clatsop Community College is seeking $8M to match $8M from the
State. The $16M will be used for redevelopment of the 93yr old Patriot
Hall. The measure will be on the Nov 4th ballot asking voters to approve a
bond that will cost the average homeowner an additional $21 per year.

8. GeorgeV: Some neighborhood residents have reported seeing these normally
nocturnal wood rats during daylight hours. This is a sign of large numbers.
These rats live in wood piles and the like and feed off seed and whatever
else they can find - including what you put out for birds and pets. Talk
to your neighbors and if your neighborhood is affected, coordinate with
others to control this with a unified effort. This species can reproduce
monthly with litters of up to 20 - so don't wait.

9. JohnB The Cannon Beach Chorus begins practice Sept 8 at 630pm at the
Community Church. Rehearsals are Mondays from 630-830pm. see

10. Sally Steidel passed out posters by Bill for the Cannon Beach Academy.
The poster shows a group of people with the wording "We did it once, We can
do it again". The Cannon Beach Academy has promises for $418K and needs
$82K more to show local support before the appeal that will be considered
