1. WINGS is Women Interested in Going to School. The program is in its 13th
year helping women achieve their educational goals. It is 100% supported by

2. New at Today's Meeting - John Valley, Outreach Director for Oregon 529
College Savings Network. John is one of 3 staffers for this state funded
and run program - an investment vehicle specifically for college savings.
Individuals create an account with after tax dollars, but earnings/interest
is not taxable provided the money is spent according to the agreement. Info
at www.OregonCollegeSavings.com. To promote the program, John has begun Be
College Ready. It is being piloted in elementary schools in five school
districts with the goal of adding more each year. How about a special gift
for Oregon babies - open an account for you new baby and received a $25

3. SheriR: Support the Boy Scouts by attending a benefit dinner by Malia's
Grill this Saturday (Mar 7) from 530-730p. at Seaside American Legion. Eat
in or take out. $12. 2 for $20
4. DebbieN: The date for the 2015 Sandcastle Contest is June 20. The date
for the 2016 contest is being considered. Paramount in the decision are the
tides. All beach activity has to happen in the hours between high tides
when there is enough hard, wet sand to form sculptures and drive cars.
There are about 12 hours between high tides and about 7 hours of time to
pull off the contest. Most desirable tides are May 28 (Labor Day Wknd),
June 11 & June 25. June 25 would overlap with Plein Air & More.
5. CourtC: Last week a media group from Japan visited Cannon Beach. On
March 17 a group from Australia will be in town.
6.CourtC: With the lack of snow in the mountains, expect lots of
beach-goers over Spring Breaks. Oregon break is Mar 21-29. See other breaks
at the bottom of this page.
7. GaryH: Savor Cannon Beach is set for the weekend of Mar 12-15. Get your
tickets now. It will likely sell out. New this year on Friday, 9 galleries
will have invitation only art and wine events. Also on Friday night is the
Battle of the Blends and the Battle of the Bites. Stephanie at Primary
Elements Gallery will feature wine related art. This past weekend 450 wines
were tasted and judged. 48 gold medals were awarded. Bob Neroni's (EVOO)
blend medaled as did the Wine Shack's Puffin Brand Rose - Best of Class!
Ocean Lodge will have two wineries featured during Savor Cannon Beach. More

Fund - Milagro Theater El Nino Diego - a bi-lingual production for the

night. The numbers from 2013 to 2014 were as follows: Homicide 0-1, Robbery
0-1, Assaults 4-5, Burglary 7-13, Theft 29-34, Motor Vehicle theft 1-0,
Arson 0-0. Domestic Disturbance 19-15, Fraud 5-2, Vandalism 32-21, Sex
Offenses 2-0, Drug cases 43-19, DUII 21-13, Minor in Possession 20-19,
Forgery 2-3, Furnishing Alcohol to Minors 2-5, Disorderly Conduct 4-5,
Embezzlement 0-0, Weapons Laws 1-1. There was a decrease in traffic
citations/warnings as well as a decrease in accidents.
9. JasonS: When asked by Wendy to elaborate on the need to initiate a
sign-in policy at City Hall - first off, the Insurance Company is asking
for it for liability reasons. Also, because city employees are working on
projects that require focus, interruptions can slow projects down
considerably. And some of the projects and info at City Hall involve
privacy issues. Therefore, having people sign in before they go beyond the
front desk will give allow city emplyees to avoid people just walking into
their offices. Name tags will not be used.

1. GeorgeV/WendyH: The City Council along with the City Manager, Attorney
and Recorder spent Saturday setting goals and priorities. The session was
led by former Clatsop Co and Warrenton manager and current Woodburn city
manager - Scott Derickson. Most all items on the list created with be
discussed in second Tuesday work sessions in the months ahead. Five of the
identified goals are: 1. Develop a strategic plan w/ community
participation. 2. Move forward with plans for development of South Wind
(property east of highway above south entrance to CB). 3. When feasible,
acquire additional property needed to protect watershed/open space. 4.
Necus' (old school property) expansion and partnership. 5. Increase revenue
from lodging tax.
