Note2: I have posted my photos from Sandcastle weekend. Click on the link
below, then on the Sandcastle 2015 image. The photos are divided by event -
Parade, Dinner, Contest, Run. I did not make it to the concert or the
bonfire. I still need to do more organizing and labeling of the photos.
They currently are in chronological order by event. My take on the weekend
is as follows. Friday at the Info Center, 500+ people came thru - very,
very busy. The Parade (530p) had about 20 entries and a nice crowd of
appreciators. The spaghetti and chowder Dinner (6pm with Terry Porter on
hand) served around 50-60 and received very good reviews from those I
questioned as they left. The Contest had an early start this year,
contributing to a slow spectator start, but my 1030am I counted 270 cars
parked on the beach. I counted again at 1230p (the time that cars were
stopped from coming on). There were about 350 cars at that point with many
cars having already left or just leaving. The crowd was big - plenty big.
In looking at the crowd from above and from my photos, I estimate it at
about 2/3 of last year. There were some great sculptures as you will see
from my photos. The sun was warm, the wind was cool and steady. Tee shirts
and posters pretty well sold out over the weekend, but there are still
books if you haven't got yours yet. I was told that the concert had maybe
30 attendees who were well entertained by 5 musicians. I haven't heard
anything about the bonfire other than it went well. Retailers I talked to
reported a very good weekend. Debbie, John, Coaster Construction and all
the volunteers did an awesome, admirable job on this event. i am happy and

1. Police Chief Jason Schermerhorn introduced newly hired Officer James Jordan.
James worked for Escape Lodging as manager at the RV Resort at Cannon Beach
before getting into officer reserve work and then on to full time police
work. Welcome James.

2. JasonS: Police officer Devon Edwards (also known for her artwork on the
current Sandcastle Poster) wil be leaving the Cannon Beach Police to take a

3. Traffic could be crazy this Sandcaslte Saturday as Seaside has a soccer
tournament and a car show while Astoria has their Scandinavian Festival.

4. Greg Swedenborg and Robin Risley begin their 3 year terms in July on the
Chamber Board joining, President Steve Sinkler, VP Jason Schermerhorn,

10 days away. Volunteers are still needed. Setup begins at 530am, but help

2. CourtC .. Goonies weekend in Cannon Beach was a big success. Thursday's
bonfire (actually 9 bonfires) in front of Ocean Lodge had 200 people and

Starlight Parade this past weekend with the Sandcastle Float, mermaids and
walkers including Court, committee chair Debbie Nelson, float designers and
builders John Nelson, Sam Steidel and Dave Vonada. Special thanks to John
and Coaster Construction for building a "dock" for the mermaids to hang out
on, for hauling the float to and  from Portland and pulling it in the

10. GeorgeV: City Manager Brant Kucera has announced the hiring of two new
positions at City Hall. The new IT Director is Russell Barrett and the new
Finance Director is Laurie Sawrey. Both these positions were created to
move from contracted services to in-house services as cost-saving measures.
KathyK: Hopefully these people or someone at City Hall will find time to
pursue grants that are available to the city.

due to its small population size (less than 400 on the Oregon coast). They
have a nest at Haystack Rock that is vulnerable. Keep your dogs on leash at
