1. JohnB: Last night the Charter School made their third application to the
Seadside School District. The meeting went very will with everyone trying
to do what is good for the kids. See the Daily A article at

2. JaneD: Application submission deadline for the Individual Artist Grant
of $4000 is Oct 1. A year long project to be shared with the community by a
visual artist, musician, writer, or performer who has a connection to the
Cannon Beach Community may apply.

19. GeorgeV: The City's Barrel (Container) Program will continue. At the
same time, the City will grow the volume of supplies for those who do not

1. New at Today's Meeting: Jane Brumfield - new Program Director for Cannon
Beach Arts Assn. Jane's duties include the Cannon Beach Gallery. She grew
up in England where she worked in galleries. She has been a gallery owner
for a total of 8 years. Most recently she was in Boise. She bought a home
outside Astoria and is studying to get her masters in Art Administration.

8. CourtC: Pelican Brewery will be replacing the old Doogers building with
a new facility. They have hired our own John Newman as their executive
chef. This new restaurant/brew pub will be hiring up to 50 people.

9. JulieW: Jim Entler will once again lead the Small Business Management
Program. Cost is $495 for Oct - May monthly meetings plus onsite visits and
consults. The Alum program is $395 and include 3 visits per year plus class
attendance. This program is no longer part of the college. Contact

chairs etc on the beach day and night during their stay. Those managing
motels and houses are encouraged to let renters/guests know that the beach
is to be left clean and as it was found each night. Take only pictures -
leave only footprints.

year's Stormy Weather Arts Festival. The poster and flyers are being laid

3. JimP: The "Explore" tab on the Chamber website is being populated with
edited content from Cannon Beach Magazine. Please check it out -

4. JimP: The Chamber is taking on the task of creating and maintaining
*the* Cannon
Beach Calendar. With many organizations scheduling many events throughout
the year, sometimes they fall on the same date at the same time only
because one group does not know what the other group has planned.
Registered users/members will be able to add events at the Chamber site.
They don't go live till after Jim approves them.

5. GeorgeV: At Last night's meeting, the Council voted to approve a 1%
increase in the Lodging Tax effective for stays beginning October 1st.

6. CourtC: To hit the market this week is Court's 3500 sq ft 4 bedroom West
Hills home in Portland. Court and Kathy's move to the beach will be

to build a 240 Sq ft building and share an existing cell tower with

1. JasonS:  *Tuesday's from 3-4p - The Cannon Beach Farmers Market
 Children's Passport Program*. Jason and son Jackson, along with Matt
Gardner  lead the group.  Children receive $2 in tokens at each market they
attend and keep a record of their purchases. They have the opportunity  to
meet the farmers and learn more about where their food comes from.There is
also fun activities and cooking demonstrations by *Taste of Place, *operated
by Oregon State University Extension Service.

vacated by Devon Edwards. 30 people have applied for the front office
position.

3. JasonS: With peak season upon us, parking can be challenging. Our three
information officers can be of assistance. If you can't find parking, call
the police at 503-436-2811 who can radio the info officers who can likely
direct you to an available space. Also, if you observe cars parked
inappropriately, report those to 503-436-2811.
4. Mickie Evans - Mickie and husband Mark are the new owners (since Feb) of
Radio 94.9fm - The Bridge. They come to us from San Diego CA where Mark
worked in News for Clear Channel. Mickie's trade is accounting. 94.9 is

5. JasonS: National Night Out is a national effort between law enforcement
and local communities to promote unity and partnership in fighting crime.
Join in this fun and informative event Tuesday Aug 4th 5-7p at the City

6. CourtC: The 1% increase in lodging tax is to be voted on at the August
City Council Meeting - to take effect October 1. This will increase the
city's percentage to 8% and bring the total to 9% including the state's 1%.
In the city's budget meetings, it was decided that 70% of the increase be
contracted to the Chamber for welcoming guests and attracting off-season
guests to town through staffing, improvements and PR/Advertising. Court and
city manager Brant Kucera will be meeting to draw up the contract which
will then go before the City Council.
