1. CourtC: With the addition of *Destination Marketing Specialist *Matthew
Weintraub, the Chamber staff is now at 4 full time employees to run the
Chamber, the Info Center and invest the City's Tourism Development Funds.

2. KevanR: The Chamber Marketing Committee, in charge of investing a large
portion of the Tourism Development Fund, is advocating a meeting of event
coordinators to discuss ways to work together for the good of all.
3. New at today's meeting: Melissa Dupre of the Ocean Spa. Melissa is the

5. New at today's meeting: Sarah Dailey is the executive director of the
Seaside Downtown Development Assn. They put on 9 events a year. Their
biggest draws are the May and Nov Wine Walks and the two car shows. The
also do a golf tournament at Gearhart Golf Links to benefit Seaside Kids.

6. CourtC: For the 3 quarters ending March 31, the City's lodging tax
revenue is up 13% over the same period a year ago.
7. JasonS: The Cannon Beach Police Dept presents Cannon Beach's 3rd Annual
National Night Out Tues Aug 2 from 5-7pm at the City Park and Chamber. -

8. New at today's meeting: Ted Wood, managing principal broker at Cascade

9. TedW: Artists Sara Goodenough and David Marshall will be featured at
Cascade Sotheby's Art & Wine event. Thursday July 21 from 4 – 6 pm at 130 N

10. JasonS: A new CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class will take
place beginning Saturday Sept 17. Register now with Laura Yokohama at

11. RJM: David Pero is replacing Steve Forester at the Daily Astorian. Pero
will serve as editor and publisher of The Daily Astorian. As group
publisher, he will oversee all operations on the coast for the Astorian,
Seaside Signal, Cannon Beach Gazette, Coast River Business Journal and
Chinook Observer.
12. JimP: The 234th Army Band of the Oregon National Guard is embarking on
its annual Summer Concert Series, Brass Ops will perform at 6 p.m. Tuesday,
July 19 at City Park in Cannon Beach. This 12-member brass band features
high-energy traditional and contemporary brass arrangements, marches and
historical literature.featuring programs in the local area performed by
several ensembles. All of the band’s performances are free, and open to the
public. Brass Ops, a brass group including electric bass, percussion,
saxophones and piccolo.
13. New at today's meeting: Lisa Robinson of Avamere - owner of Suzanne
Elise and Avamere at Seaside (formerly Necanicum Village). They have a

14. This is Wendy's last Wednesday Morning Meeting. She is move to the tri
cities to manage the brand new 82 unit Lodge at Columbia Point. We will
miss her dearly. Her replacement at Ocean Lodge is Scott Congdon.

1. CourtC: Court introduced Matthew Weintraub. He has been hired full time
as the *Destination Marketing Specialist. *He was most recently the IMBA
(International Mountain Biking Association) Associate Region Director for
its Pacific Northwest Region, encompassing parts of Washington and all of
Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii. Before that he was an instructor at the
Bush School, a private K-12 institution in Seattle, and the events
coordinator for his local mountain bike group. He has extensive land
management experience with the U.S. Forest Service and the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife, and recently completed his Master’s Degree
in Forest Ecosystem Analysis at the University of Washington. He is
currently living in Portland. Stop by the Chamber to welcome him. He is
seeking housing here. A room will do for now, but he wants an apartment or

2. JohnB: Cannon Beach Chorus presents Cabaret featuring the music of
George & Ira Gershwin this weekend. It is sold out. Chorus info at

3. The Seaside Rotary Foundation annually raises money at a dinner and
auction. Last year's goal was $78K. Funds are used to support local groups
and individuals including senior citizen projects, scholarships, exchange
students, etc. This year's event will be October 29. Please contact Pastor

4. GeorgeV: Fresh Foods Cannon Beach had their ribbon cutting last week.
See photos at https://gvfa.smugmug.com/FreshFoods. The grocery will be open
daily 630am to 10pm with a large grocery selection and espresso from Sleepy
Monk. They are encouraging shoppers to let them know what items they
would like the store to carry.

6. BobNer: A 4'x5' wood fired oven has been installed at EVOO. See

8. JaneB: Summer Internship: Application deadline July 11. Cannon Beach
Arts Association seeks applicants to its Intern Program. The summer
internship will begin in July, running through until the end of September.
The intern will gain a variety of experience in all aspects of working in a
nonprofit arts organization. More info at

9. GeorgeV: At last night's City Council Meeting, the TAC recommended
monetary awards to 9 non-profits for 14 events/projects were approved.
Nearly $266K was awarded in all. $20K was held in reserve. These are
lodging tax revenues that are required by state statute to be spent on
putting heads-in-beds. The single event receiving the most funds ($43K) is
the Yoga festival followed by Savor Cannon Beach ($40K). The Gallery Group
will receive $44K to to be spent between two events - Spring Unveiling and
Plein Air & More.

11. KevanR: As the Chamber Marketing Committee Chair, Kevan is hopeful that
all TAC recipients will work together to better promote our town and their
events. He is proposing a joint meeting.
12. SheriR: Join friends and acquaintances of Carolyn Anderson to honor her
years as the Cannon Beach Postmaster. Wednesday July 13 from 530p to 730p
at the Chamber.
13. JohnB/GeorgeV: After more than 6 years as our WMM moderator, 8 years as
a City Councilor and many more years as manager at the Ocean Lodge, Wendy
and husband Fred are building a home in the Tri-Cities where Wendy will
manage a new inn by Ocean Lodge's parent company Escape Lodging. Join
friends for a farewell party Wednesday July 13 from 3-6pm at the Driftwood.
Then go over to the Chamber for Postmaster Carolyn Anderson retirement
party.
14. GeorgeV: 4th of July weekend was a busy one. And a great one! Of
course, the parade was the highlight. The streets were lined with
spectators, many of whom were kids with bags ready to fill with the candy
raining down from the parade. Where once it was just downtown on Hemlock St
that the people gathered, now they are lined up all along Spruce and
Hemlock from midtown to downtown. View photos of the parade and the

15. Untreated drainage water running on to our beaches may be contaminated
with animal waste. Don't let kids play in it. Help keep Cannon Beach clean
and beautiful - do not feed the wildlife and do pick up after your pets.
16. Walk the Evacuation Routes - every 4th Monday at 12pm. Gather at City
Hall upper parking lot. Next walk July 25. Contact
