1. GeorgeV: Approx 50 people were in attendance at Coaster Theatre
Wednesday night for the one and only 2016 City Council Candidates Forum.
Three very qualified people, Nancy McCarthy, Herb Florer and Brandon
Ogilvie are running for two open positions on the 5-member City Council.
Two will be elected in November to 4-year terms beginning in January
joining Mayor Sam Steidel and councilors Mike Benefield and George Vetter.

2. Oregon and Costa Rica have a connection - Partners of America. Anyone
interested in a trip to Costa Rica in February can find info at

3. PatrickN: The Cannon Beach Academy charter was approved unconditionally
by the Seaside School District at the board meeting last night! With this
approval they can now move forward with applying for grants and focusing on
what needs to get done. The grade levels will start with K-2 adding a grade
each year. The school will be located in midtown across from the Fire
Department.
4. Stormy Weather Arts Festival is Nov 4-6. Poster art this year is by
John Ebner. The piece is called "Calm between the Storms". 12x16 Posters
for $25 and 75 Limited Edition $75 posters are available now at the Chamber.
Donations for Saturday's auction during Art in Action at Surfsand Ballroom
can be dropped at the Chamber, or call 503-436-2623 to arrange a pick-up.
The weekend begins with the Ellen Whyte concert Friday at 730pm at Coaster
Theatre. Then Saturday morning at 1030am at the Theatre is the free fashion
show - Dancing in the Rain. Live music will be performed at 7 locations
around town on Saturday while art is showcased throughout town at
galleries, shops, restaurants and motels. Saturday night is Art In Action
at the Surfsand Ballroom at 7pm. Sunday is a new event - Blues, Brews
and Barbecues at 11am at the Chamber. Tickets available for all events now

5. JeneeP: Walk the Evacuation Routes with Jenee and others. This coming
Monday Oct 24 is the last of the year. Gather at 12pm at the City Hall
upper parking lot. - featuring the Midtown South route ER5.
6. PatrickN/DougD: "Vote Yes for Local Schools" was the message and the
flyers passed out in support of Seaside School District (1550 students)
bond measure on the November ballot. 80 acres was donated by
Weyerhaeuser contiguous
to Seaside Elementary. Gearhart Elem, Broadway Middle and Seaside High
(averaging 65 years of age) will be replaced on the new property outside
the tsunami inundation zone. The 30-year bond is $1.35 per $1000 per year
of assessed property value. It will raise $99.7 million. The approx cost
for a $300,000 home would be $405 per year. The 2013 bond, which failed,
was for $2.15 per $1000. The major areas removed from the 2013 bond are
replacing Heights Elem, an auditorium, varsity football, varsity boys and
girls soccer fields, varsity baseball fields, covered bleacher/locker room
complex and all the emergency shelter components not required by law. More

7. The Great Oregon Shakeout <http://www.shakeout.org/oregon/> is set for
tomorrow Oct 20 at 1020am. Everyone is asked to get under something for 5
minutes while an Cascadia Event would occur and then evacuate to high
ground via the nearest evacuation route. A little preparation can make a
big difference!
8. DougD: To tour the schools to be replaced by the bond measure, meet Tues
Oct 25 at 6pm at Broadway Middle School (next to Seaside
Chamber) Participants will be bussed to the schools.
9. JeneeP: ID Protection Day - Free document shredding re-scheduled to Nov
12 from 10am to 1pm in the Seaside High School Hwy 101 parking lot. Canned
food or donations are welcome. All donations will benefit the CCA Regional
Food Bank. Sponsored by Pacific Alarm, Wanna Credit Union and
Seaside Chamber.

3. JeneeP: MelodieC completed her CERT Training recently along with her
husband Gary and 5 other bringing the total number of members of the Cannon
Beach Commuinit Emergency Response Team to 41. The goal is to have 100
trained CERTS by the end of 2018. There will be another class in the early
spring. You have to take the class to get certified, but you can go through
the lessons online at https://www.fema.gov/commun

spaces at the RV Park be used to place Park Model Homes which would be
rented as affordable housing - limited to renters who make less than a
certain yet to be determined amount of money. There will be a presentation
