9. JeanieMc: Those of you who have Seattle friends, please let them know
that there is an opportunity to host adult Costa Ricans. By May 10, please
email jeaniemclaughlin139 at gmail.com for any help to secure Seattle hosts Sept.
4, 5, and 6 for an adult homestay before our Central American guests come
to Oregon for the majority of their trip. We need at least 3 Seattle hosts
for former USA president John Kennedy’s organization “Partners of the
Americas.” Seattle hosts who live near the center of town are ideally
located because our visitors want to enjoy sites such as the space needle,
pioneer place, and pike place market. The majority of the month tour will
be spent in Oregon, but a 3 day stent in Seattle is a very popular
addition. Oregon North Coast cities host for a full week, after the Seattle
visit. Costa Ricans speak basic English, and a bilingual guide comes with
the Costa Rican group of travelers, a maximum of 18. For info contact
Jeanie at 503-436-2412. More at www.oregonpartners.net.

10. JasonS/SheriR: The annual Boy Scouts Hawaiian Dinner will be Apr 21st

discounted. To go orders too. Tickets at CB Columbia Bank or at the door.

11. GeorgeV: Voters may be voting on funding a new city hall in an upcoming
election. In a Work Session today at 530 at City Hall, the City Council
will discuss how, when and where. The current building has passed its
useful life and would cost more to repair, remodel and upgrade than
starting from the ground up. Up for debate is where to locate a new city
hall. It currently sits in a commercial zone in the middle of the tsunami
inundation zone. The South Wind property, purchased in 2013, is out of the
tsunami inundation zone. Some do not want to see city hall moved to the
outskirts of town. Others see the sale of the existing property as a means
to offset some of the costs of construction and utilities/access at South
Wind. The consensus at this WMM was that it be built out of the tsunami
inundation zone.

9. JeanieMc: A group of Costa Ricans will be coming to Oregon and Cannon
Beach again this year as part of the Oregon-Costa Rica Partners of the
Americas program. They are looking for 3-day Home Stays in Cannon Beach.
For info contact Jeanie at 503-436-2412. www.oregonpartners.net.

10. There is still room in this year's Citizens Academy begining April
17th. This is your chance to learn behind the scenes police work. Ten
weekly sessions. Contact schermerhorn at ci.cannon-beach.or.us.

11. GeorgeV: Voters may be voting on funding a new city hall in an upcoming

12. GeorgeV: In a split vote last night, the City Council, upon the
recommendation of the Planning Commission, voted down zoning code
amendments relaxing parking requirements, landscaping requirements and
building height for multifamily construction in C1 (Commercial) and R3
(high residential) zones. Proponents argued that this was a way to allow
developers to build for less per unit and therefore yield a profit at lower
rents. Opponents argued that the demand for such units would dictate the
rents and that these units would still not be affordable for our workforce
and would not create any affordable housing unless there is a stipulation
attached requiring such. With the current cost of land and construction and
the demand for second homes and apartments in Cannon Beach, subsidies would
be required.

13. GeorgeV: The City currently contracts an Emergency Consultant for
guiding and educating staff and citizens in preparation for an emergency.
For an additional $41K per year, a full time person could be hired, who in
the opinion of city manager Bruce St Denis, could accomplish much more than
can be accomplished otherwise. This will come before the budget committee,
whose meetings begin May 9th at 530pm at City Hall.

14. GeorgeV via Secretary of State Dennis Richardson: April 24th is the

Sat Apr 21 - still at the Chamber and at Sundance Lodge within Sea Ranch RV
Park. Poster and flyer artwork is a Bill Steidel original. The Festival is

8. GeorgeV: From Paula Vetter: If you are available, would you help our
CERT recruits graduate by playing the part of a victim? March 17 from 8am
to 1230pm at the Arch Cape Fire Station. Your help would be greatly
appreciated as it brings a realism to the drill that we can’t provide
without you. You’re welcome to bring family, friends, and co-workers, just
give me a count when you rsvp. This is a great service to your community.
The most important thing to bring (read wear) is OLD clothing. Moulage
makeup can stain - esp the fake blood. If you have torn pants or shirt,
please wear them. Regardless of weather, please wear closed toe shoes. We
will provide coffee, and various snacks. This is a great chance to learn
what CERT is all about and to make your contribution to public safety.
Please contact pvtaps at gmail.com or call 503-706-4123 <(503)%20706-4123>.
