1. JohnB: The Cannon Beach Chorus has begun its 31st season. There is still
time to join. More high school age people have been joining as of late.

2. GeorgeV: Voters will have a choice between Mike Benefield, Robin Risley
and Greg Swedenborg for two positions on the City Council this November.
Incumbent Sam Steidel is running unopposed for mayor. Greg has announced
two dates when he will host events for voters to meet and discuss
his candidacy. The first is Thursday Sept 27 from 5-7pm on the oceanfront
lawn of the Argonauta Beach House next to the Waves Motel at the end of
Second Street. The second is Monday Oct1 from 830-10am at Morris' Fireside
Restaurant. Both will offer food and drink. There will be a candidates
forum for all city candidates October 4th at 7pm at Coaster Theatre.
3. ChrisO: Sponsored by Travel Oregon, a North Coast Tourism Summit is Tues
Sept 25 in Garibaldi. The purpose of the summit is to create a shared
vision for tourism along the North Coast. All are invited to help shape the

4. GeorgeV: Saturday Oct 13 from 430-8pm is the 71st Annual Volunteer
Firefighters Benefit Dinner at the Conference Center Dining Room at 3rd and
Spruce Streets. Adults $15. Childrens tickets at the door. Contact
aallisonpjohnson at yahoo.com for info about donating to the silent auction.
5. GeorgeV: Those who voted yesterday in the special election passed the
Fire Chief Levy, but the measure failed for lack of a 50% voter turnout. It
will be back on the November ballot.
6. GeorgeV via JeneeP: Saturday Oct 13 from 10am to 1pm is ID Protection
Day - Free document shredding at North Coast Family Fellowship parking lot
in Seaside. Sponsored by Pacific Alarm Systems, Wauna Credit Union and the
Seaside Chamber. Canned food donations for all the county food pantries are

7. GeorgeV: The *Downtown Parking Lot* (behind the Post Office) the *Public
Bathroom Lot* (corner of Spruce and 2nd) have received a fresh top coat.
Both should be open again soon.
8: ChrisO: This year's Stormy Weather Arts Festival will feature concerts
on both Friday and Saturday nights. Get you tickets not for Lloyd Jones
Struggle on Fri Nov 2 ($35) and Curtis Salgado on Sat Nov 3 ($40).

9: GeorgeV: There is a Stephen Beus classical piano concert coming up on
Saturday, Sept. 29th, at 7pm at Cannon Beach Community Church - a
benefit/memorial concert in memory of Tom Drumheller, with all the proceeds
to go to the Cannon Beach Food Pantry. $10 at the door. No advanced ticket
sales. Stephen has come to Cannon Beach many times at the invitation of Tom
Drumheller. Last year, when he played just after Tom's passing, he said he
wanted to come every year and play a benefit/memorial concert to honor his
friend Tom. This is the first of 5 in the Steinway Piano Concert Series at
the Church thru Dec 22.
10. JohnB: Nathan Daniels will serve as full time associate pastor at
Cannon Beach Community Church starting Oct 1. Nathan and his wife Kristi
and their three children, David (age 7), Nolan (age 5) and Audrianna (age
2), are excited about moving out to the north Oregon coast to begin life
and ministry with the people of Cannon Beach Community Church. They are
busy transitioning from life in Tualatin to life here on the coast.
11. GeorgeV: City Planner Mark Barnes is retiring. His replacement will be
called the Community Development Director. Jeffrey Adams has accepted the
position. He is coming to us from Georgia.
12. JohnB: Contrats to former CB City Manager Rich Mays - now Mayor in The
Dalles.
13. JimK: The Seaside and Gearhart candidate’s forum at Seaside City Hall
is tonight Wednesday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m., at Seaside City Hall. House
candidates Tiffiny Mitchell, Vineeta Lower and Brian Halvorsen will
participate or send a representative. Candidates participating include
Seaside Mayor Jay Barber and challenger John Chapman; and Seaside city
councilors Steve Wright, Tita Montero and Dana Phillips, who are each
running unopposed. In Gearhart, incumbent Kerry Smith will be challenged by
Jack Zimmerman for the Position 1 seat. Position 3 office-holder Paulina
Cockrum is running unopposed.

1. GeorgeV: Finding no way to be assured that changes would result in
workforce/affordable housing, City Council decided last night to not move
forward with zoning ordinance changes that would have allowed multi-family
3-story construction and eased up such parking requirements in C-1

2. "A Man with Standards" John O'Hurley will perform this Sat Sept 8th at
730pm at Coaster Theatre. This is the annual fundraiser for Coaster
Theatre, $75 includes appetizers and beverages prior to the show. There
will also be a silent auction. John is in the musical Chicago on Broadway,
host of the National Dog Show, played J Peterman on Seinfeld and much more.

4. GeorgeV: As the rabbit population in Cannon Beach grows, so does the
concern expressed by some citizens about the downside of these cute little
furry creatures. The City Council heard last night from a Tolovana resident
concerned about the health issues with so much "manure" in her yard. She
wants the City to do something about this growing problem. Citizens are
free to trap rabbits in their yards. They are not protected. It is illegal
to discharge any type of firearm within the City.
5. JeanieMc: A small group of Costa Ricans will be in town Tuesday Sept 11
as part if their month long visit through the Pacific Northwest.
6. GeorgeV: Voters in November will vote for Mayor and two Council
positions. No one is running against incumbent Mayor Sam Steidel. Three
people are running for two Council positions: Incumbent Mike Benefield,
Robin Risley and Greg Swedenborg. A Candidates Forum will take place Oct
4th at 7pm at Coaster Theatre
7. GeorgeV: Parking lot paving: *Downtown Parking Lot* (behind the Post
Office) will be *Closed* Sept 10th-14th. *Public Bathroom Lot* (corner of
Spruce and 2nd) will be *Closed* Sept 17th-21st (*restrooms WILL be open!*)

at the Sept 11th. 745am Chamber Breakfast meeting at Pelican Brewing.
11. GeorgeV: This weekend is the History Center's annual Cottage and Garden

12. JasonS: Have a burger with a cop this Thursday (Sept 6) at Cannon Beach
Vacation Rentals. "Please join us this Thursday, September 6th at 6pm for
burgers and conversation at 164 Sunset Blvd. If it's raining we will be
inside the fire department bays right across the driveway. Our K9 Gunner
and his handler Cpl. Bowman will do a K9 demonstration. It's a great
opportunity to get to know your Cannon Beach officers."
13. The City of Cannon Beach awards $75,000 per year to deserving
non-profits who apply for these monies. This Thursday at 6pm at the Chamber
is the annual potluck where recipients are present to talk about their
organization and their work. All are welcome.
