Unveiling Event with a Sept Earth and Ocean (working title) event. The
event will have an environmental theme and will take place September 20-22.
This brand new festival will showcase artistic inspirations that raise
awareness of the pristine coastal region through an appreciation of the
arts. The Cannon Beach Gallery Group invites artists who represent the
majestic ocean environment in their artworks, as well as artists who use
their visual expressions to encourage preservation of the beaches, forests
and waterways that make Cannon Beach such a unique and attractive location
for visitors. Collaborating with local non-profits, a portion of festival
proceeds will assist environmental organizations in maintaining protection
of Oregon’s North Coast Region. www.cbgallerygroup.com

4. GeorgeV: SRG Consulting made their first presentation to the City
Council last night laying out the basic needs of a new city hall. they
are recommending a 16,000 sq foot building (current building is 10,000).
They are looking at the existing location and the South Wind location. Two
options were presented for the current location: one in front on Hemlock
and the other behind the existing city hall. Both the current location and
South Wind have some foundation challenges. Soil tests are not in yet, but
the current location is suspected to have some contamination. South Wind is
on a slope and may have landslide challenges. The current location is in
the tsunami inundation zone whereas the South Wind location is not. The
next step is a cost analysis. The Council will then decide which option to
present to voters for bond approval in the May 2019 election.

2. GeorgeV: Your vote counts! Get your ballot in now. Your ballot must
be received by 8pm on Tuesday Nov 6. Ballots can be mailed, but postmarks
do not count. You can drop your ballot at City Hall. Mike Benefield, Robin
Risley and Greg Swedenborg are running for two positions on the City
Council. Incumbent Sam Steidel is running unopposed for mayor.
3. GeorgeV: This Saturday Nov 3 at 7pm at the Community Church is a
Steinway Piano Concert/Photo Show (by father and son David and Thomas
Robinson) - a benefit for Cannon Beach Food Pantry. See
http://beachcommunity.org/whiteclouds.php
4. HannahB/ErikO: Hannah Buschert and Erik Ostrander attended today's WMM
on behalf of the Sea Breeze Court. The property remains in the Quarles
family, having been bought by Bev Buschert and Nancy Pannel from their
siblings Jan Filley and Ken Quarles, after the recent passing of Marge and
John. Bev’s daughter and son-in-law, Hannah and Erik, will be managing the
property (i.e. taking reservations, checking in guests, cleaning, laundry,
landscaping, and more!). Bev’s and Nancy’s families are excited to
continue the 54 year legacy of the Quarles-owned Sea Breeze Court and to be
part of the Cannon Beach community. Hannah and Erik have been traveling the
country working as park rangers in Texas and most recently with the Florida
Fish and Wildlife in Tallahassee before returning home to manage the
property. They bring with them a wealth of experiences in birding, outdoor
recreation, and tourism development. They are excited to be back in Oregon
and with the family owned business.
5. GeorgeV: The City Council met last week with SRG to begin the process of
analyzing the cost of a new city hall at two different locations: the
current Midtown location and the Southward property east of 101 at the
south end of town. The Council will then decide which to put to the voters
for the money to move forward. The Southwind property was purchased a few
years ago because it is out of the tsunami inundation zone with the idea
that essential and emergency services would be located there. The current
city hall is in the tsunami inundation zone. The reason Southwind is still
untouched is the city has not been able to accumulate the money for access
off 101 and to extend sewer and water to the property. To offset some of
these costs, the current city hall property could be sold if the new city
hall were placed there.
6. All: Attendance at these Wednesday Morning Meetings has been low
recently. There was discussion about how to change
that. HannahB: Personally inviting someone to attend would likely be
effective. GeorgeV: The WMM email distribution list has grown to over 300
including most all organizations in Cannon Beach and the surrounding area.
Because there is no affilaiation or agenda, all are welcome to attend and
share. By having these meetings consistently, people know that there is
always a venue for community ideas and discussion.
7. JimP: The Chamber's monthly breakfast meetings feature speakers of
interest. They occur on Tuesdays at 7:45am. The venue varies.
8: GeorgeV: Support our Troops. Donate your Halloween Candy. Bring your
Halloween candy to the Cannon Beach Academy (3781 S Hemlock St) by Nov 16th
weekdays between 730am and 330pm. All candy will be sent overseas to our
local Air Force National Guard unit stationed in the United Arab Emirates.
Call (503) 436-4463
9: JimP: The new Chamber website is being developed and is scheduled to go
live sometime in January. This will be a welcome improvement over the
current site.
10. GeorgeV: The regular monthly City Council Meeting will take place next
Tuesday, Nov 6 at 7pm at City Hall. Drop your ballot in the ballot box at
City Hall if you haven't already one so. Find links to the meeting's agenda
and packet at

which was similar to the increase last year over 2016. The Market collected
approx $12K from vendors, contributions and sales while the expenses added
up to approx $38K - the $26K difference being made up by the City's General
Fund. The lack of available parking was discussed along with the impact on
neighboring businesses. A possible alternate location could eventually be
the old school property or even the downtown city park.
