Reminder: Tomorrow is Wednesday and the WMM at 8am at Pizza a Fetta
(upstairs in banquet room).
Note1: The Farmers Market is today and runs thru September 24th. Open from
1pm to 5pm, with music and prepared food and vendors. See
https://www.ci.cannon-beach.or.us/farmersmarket
Note2: The regular monthly City Council meeting is next Tuesday Aug 6th at
7pm at City Hall. For info on City meetings, see
https://www.ci.cannon-beach.or.us/meetings?field_microsite_tid_1=27
Note3: My 34 years with El Mundo and 10 with my photo gallery taught me
some things about survival and success in Cannon Beach. 1. An ounce of
energy in July and August produces as much as a pound in Dec - Feb. 2.
People like to buy from friendly people. 3. People will shop till 9pm in
Summer. 4. Shoplifters seize easy opportunities. They also feel invisible
if no one greets them. 5. Perceived value by the customer is what you need
to be charging irregardless of what you paid. 6. Any day in Summer can be
the best day of the week, but Saturday's are the best bet. 6. Traffic
begins to fall off mid Aug as some schools begin. 7. Employees often take
the parking spaces that should be reserved for customers. 8. People flow
like water - seeking the easiest path with the least obstructions. 9. Your
windows and doors are your best advertising. 10. Everybody loves praise.
Note4: I will miss this meeting. Would someone please take notes and send
them to me for distribution to the list. .. George at Cannon-Beach.net

4. GeorgeV: I have posted 180 photos from Saturday's 55th Annual Cannon
Beach Sandcastle Contest at
https://gvfa.smugmug.com/Events/Cannon-Beach-Sandcastle/Sandcastle-2019/.
It was a perfect day for sand sculpting - not too wet, dry, sunny or windy.
The sculpting began at 930am. At noon I counted 400 cars on the beach as
some were leaving and more were coming. Thirty sculptures, including 7
Masters had to be completed by 230pm for final judging. Cars had to be off
the the beach at 3pm. A limit of 500 cars at one time were allowed.
Sandcastle Chair, Debbie Nelson (Your Cannon Beach Florist), her committee
and team of volunteers, Chamber Staff, Title Sponsor Coaster Construction,
CB Fire and the CB Police/CERT/MRC/DART all performed to perfection. So
many people had a wonderful day at the beach - for free - to remember and
share with friends and family. Mark your calendar now for Sandcastle 2020 -
June 13th - and let Debbie and John Nelson know how much you appreciate all
they do to keep this tradition alive. PS If you missed getting a
Sandcastle tee shirt, sweatshirt, cap or poster with the art of beloved
artist Bill Steidel, get to the Chamber soon before they're gone. Call
503-436-2623 to reserve.
5. JimK: The Farmers Market kicked off yesterday and runs thru September
24th. Open from 1pm to 5pm, with music and prepared food and vendors. See

7. All: It's that time of year again when the need for workforce housing
becomes top-of-mind to Cannon Beach businesses and their customers. Some
businesses have to close a day or two a week because of the lack of help.
Could a joint effort between the businesses and the cities of Cannon Beach
and Seaside create workforce housing at the junction where vacationing
visitors wouldn't put so much pressure on prices?
8. GeorgeV: This Friday (June 14) is Flag Day. Bring out the Red, White &
Blue.
9. GeorgeV: The Cannon Beach Academy's Benefit Auction and Concert at the
Academy (3781 S Hemlock) is this Saturday June 15th from 6-9p. Adams and
Costello will be playing music and student artwork will be up for auction .
Silent auction and live auction followed by the concert. Tickets are $25 -
