Some galleries and artists have expressed disappointment in the prices being paid for auction items at the Quickdraw event on Friday night. Troy has expressed the desire to work on getting the right people to the event and promoting it more as a benefit. With fewer artists and therefore more room for people and table rather than concert seating he thinks the auction will return better results. GeorgeV: Stormy Weather Arts Festival has been the Chamber’s best income producing event for many years. This past year was not nearly as good. Ever since the economy has begun to stumble, the event has seen diminishing returns – mostly because of bidding at the auction. Income from the event, including sponsor money, pays for the event. The Farmer’s Market is open on Tuesdays from June 12 through September 25, opening at 1:00 with music, prepared food, and community booths. All other vendors open at 2:00, and the market closes at 5:00. Community booths are for local non-profits. George: Plein Air & More kicked of Friday with the Meet and Greet the artists show at the Chamber. The hall was converted to a first class gallery with track lighting standing walls throughout. The place filled as the doors opened and it was festive as wine and lite bites were served. Saturday the painting and creating began in the rain at 11a at designated places around town, but mostly in the galleries because of the weather. Volunteers in red vests were on the street to answer questions. About mid afternoon, the rain subsided and gave way to a beautiful afternoon and evening. The show at the Chamber continued on Saturday. Galleries hosted receptions from 5-7p and later on Saturday showcasing the completed works of their artists. The strawberries were excellent and a new vendor – The Honey Pit – was a big hit. Carol commented what a fun place it is to volunteer. Jennifer passed out $5 market tokens which can be purchased at city hall and at the market with credit cards. Please let folks know that the Farmer’s Market is open on Tuesdays from June 12 through September 25, opening at 1:00 with music, prepared food, and community booths. Stephanie/Jim/George: Plein Air & More is June 22-24. Starting Friday from 5-7p at the Chamber is the Meet and Greet the Plein Air & More artists with a show, wine and lite bites. Saturday the painting and creating begins at 11a at designated places around town. Volunteers in red vests will be on the street to answer questions. The show at the Chamber continues Saturday till 4pm. Saturday from 5-7p galleries will be showcasing the completed works of their artists along with receptions. Some galleries have complained that the declining amounts received by the auctioned art devalues the work of participating artists and that their artists no longer want to participate. Locals, who used to attend and bid items up to support the Chamber in this fundraiser have not been showing up. The committee will be looking at ways to energize the evening. Those attending have enjoyed the evening.
