Paul is great . He is always smiling and we are sooooooooo happy to see him
representing our town. Thank You Paul. Its just that Paul is only one person
and do not believe any of our concerns where in his regard. Again, I want to
make sure he knows how much we appreciate him.

Paul’s Message

As one of your information officers let me chip in here. One of our
challenges is that at the busiest portion of the day we find ourselves
sometimes overwhelmed with the task of re-directing visitors who insist on
parking illegally. Keeping the shuttle spaces, yellow zones at
intersections and crosswalks, RV parking free of passenger cars, etc. etc.is
critical to the safety of the public and important to the movement of
traffic throughout the downtown area. Our direction from the Chief is to
try and get to these folks BEFORE they exit and leave the vicinity of their
vehicle so we don't have to ticket them. Our goal is to keep our visitors
parking in acceptable spaces and not write one ticket doing so.

I and the other officers get off our bikes and walk as much as we can and
still fill the above role assigned us. One of the things we find most
do-able is to stop and visit with folks at the intersection of 2nd and
Hemlock as often as we can. We field a LOT of questions during those
dismounted periods and we try to keep one officer there while the other
patrols. As we get to the busier times of the day, however, that just isn't
possible.

I would encourage your group to discuss this with the Chief. He is very
much aware of the challenges the parking issues create and has crafted a
workable plan for us to keep the challenges at a minimum. He might also
have some thoughts about how to best address the "walk-about" issue.

Paul
