desired. Remember that no open wine containers are permitted on the street.
The future of this event could be jeopardized by OLCC is this rule is not
followed. If you are a wine venue, post a sign at the exit next to a

12. George: It was encouraging to hear vendors at the apparel show in Vegas
say they were having a good show. Hopefully consumers will share the
optimism.
13. Gary: Coast Explorer Magazine's Spring issue is out. Find it throughout

14. Gary: In the works are Marketing Workshops at the Chamber. Stay tuned.
15. George: With the Executive Director position at the Chamber still
vacant, it is important that Annual Supporters and Event Sponsors be

16. Gary: For budgetary reasons, the administration at Clatsop Community
College is recommending to the Board that the Small Business Development
Program be dropped by the college and moved to the Small Business
Development Center. There is concern that the program would suffer without
the guidance and leadership of the person who has done it for 20 years and
knows the area and it's businesses so well. The Board will be taking
community input Tuesday March 1 at 630pm in Columbia Hall Room 219.
17. George: Sunset Empire Transit District (SETD) has a Board position
opening. SETD operates the bus system from Astoria to Nehalem, including
Cannon Beach. They meet once a month for a meeting that lasts 2 hours. They
receive packets a week in advance. Sometimes they will have a special
meeting during the month. People are needed who are willing to give time
and business knowledge to the Board. You would have to go the court house
and register for the May election, It would cost you $10.00. The position
that will be open is # 7. The person who has served for 8 years is leaving
due to her job.
18. Dale: The History Center has (after a three year wait) been given the
green light on a Smithsonian Exhibit during July and August. Volunteers are
needed. There is a globe that is part of the Exhibit that is required to be

Stephanie has Fisher Poet Buttons. Purchase of buttons gets you into all
the events that will be held from Astoria to Cannon Beach, during the last
three days of Feb.
Yoga Festival is also Feb. 25-27. Claire passed out brochures for the
festival, and has posters. She pointed out that world class instructors will
be at the event teaching various types of yoga. $325 gets you two days of
classes. The festival is produced by the Tolovana Arts Colony, funded by
the TAC funds. Many local restaurants will be offering vegan/vegetarian
meals. Already have 65 registered participants, but have the capacity for
120. Also offering the option of sharing a registration for people who
can't attend both days.
Kristine G recapped the pr efforts of the Cannon Beach Chamber thru DVA.
They have pushed the Taylor Branch conference, Yoga Festival, Savor Cannon
Beach and are currently ramping up for Sandcastle days. She also noted that
next week our community will be hosting a group of travel writers that are
visiting Astoria thru Garibaldi. The tour was put together by OVCA. Last,
she said she fielded a call from Trip Advisor asking if we would put the
Travel Advisor logo on the bottom of our web site home page. That would get
Cannon Beach a slot (in rotation with ???others) on their site for "best
beach vacation home rentals". Their home site gets 13 million hits/month.
Tim K reported on yesterday's monthly chamber board meeting. The board has
reassessed the chamber goals and priorities since the loss of the ED in
December. One thing that came out of that process was decision to divide
the responsibilities into three categories. First was administrative
duties, and that interim slot has been filled by a current employee, Sharon
Visser. Second component is web site maintenance, and work has been
initiated to hire a vendor to complete needed web work. Third component
focuses on membership relationships, which includes marketing, sponsorships,
events, etc. A full search will be made for that person. Rich Mays is
leading the search committee.
Bob shared that EVOO is offering 24 hours of culinary instruction that will
be one on one with Bob and Lenore. A few slots are still open. Instruction
begins this Sunday, goes thru Wednesday. No cooking experience required.
Dale noted that the History Center is offering a harp concert on the last
Saturday of the month. Also, now recruiting homes for "cottage tour" this
summer. It will be called Cottage Tour - Sampling of Cannon Beach, so that
they can include more of a variety of homes. Tolovana will be the featured
area. Last, the Smithsonian exhibit will be installed this summer. The
exhibit includes a globe that needs to guarded during all the hours the
exhibit is open to the public. History center looking for volunteer guards.
(Bring a book, sit next to the globe.)
Gary shared changes to Facebook protocol. Used to be business Facebook
pages had to be set up under your personal page. Now has changed so that
you can switch and now interact as your business (rather than individual.)
If you have tons of "friends" on your page, important to switch to the
business platform.
Gary also talked about Savor Cannon Beach, passing around table tents.
There are only 20 tickets left for the entire festival, from original 100.
Some of the local hotels have packages that include festival tickets, as
well. Festival tickets are different from the wine tour tickets that are
available at the Chamber. Wine tour tickets cost $25. The event is the
weekend of March 11,12 13.
Cannon Beach Magazine arrived yesterday, and distribution has begun. Coast
Explorer is available later this week. This is the earliest the CB Mag has
been available, well in advance of spring break. YIPEE! It has an
additional 8 pages in it from last year. Gary spoke favorably about the
partnership between Pelican Productions and the Chamber. Kristin praised the
mag and Gary's willingness to include full pgs of beautiful visuals and
thoughtful phrases like you might find in a personal journal. She thought
it enhanced the product with a romantic feel, perfect for Cannon Beach.
Gary has also posted the new virtual magazine. With an added feature where
you can click on an ad and be linked to the advertiser's home page.
Wendy noted that a Business After Hours will be March 2 at 390 Elk Creek RD,
from 4:30-6:30 sponsored by Coaster Construction.

2. George: The next Chamber Board meeting is this coming Tuesday Feb 15 at
845am at the Chamber.
3. Wendy: At last night's Council Meeting, discussion included SEPRD
(Sunset Empire Parks and Recreation District). Voters must decide whether
they want to be part of that District. It would add $0.92 per $1000 of
property tax value. A $500K property would pay $460. If Cannon Beach is part
of the District, reduced rates are available to Cannon Beach Residents.
4. Tracy: Lush Wine Bar is normally not open on Mondays, but will be this
Valentine's Day. And tomorrow, Thursday February 10, 8pm, hear and see
DENIZENS OF THE DEEP.
5. Ann: Once again, Sunday will be Cupcake Sunday at Found in Midtown.

attendance. Those who were there were "astounded". The speakers "blew them
away". Thanks to the Chamber, Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals, Escape Lodging,

to all those who helped. Special thanks to Carol Knutsen-Hawes, who
conceived and planned the event. George reported that the guest at Inn at
Village Centre reported that it was a great event. Tracy said her Lush Wine
Bar business benefitted and she talked to restaurants who were busy at times
when they would normally not have been.

let you know the Planning Commission approved the text amendment to allow
museums in the C-1 Zone. The City Council will take it up on March 1st".

5. Bob Neroni: Robyn Cannon is putting together a smart phone app for Pike
Place Market. She is doing this with Sutro, a company who does this with
travel writers for higher end destinations. The estimated cost for such an
app is $40K. If all Cannon Beach businesses listed in the city produced map,
paid equally, the cost would be $115 each. It would take approx 4 months to
build the app. The app would allow users to download it onto their phones
or pads (small fee $5 or less) and have GPS convenience to everything the

JeffT and GaryH pointed out that there are apps out there now that include
Cannon Beach and that Google and current websites already include most of
the information that would need to be gathered and maintained on an app.
George agreed saying that even if the money challenge were overcome, it
would be a major challenge to keep the app current and that you could not
rely on participants to do that without having someone designated to verify
that info is current and to solicit current info from participants. Malia
thinks that smart phone apps will become the norm in the future just like
websites are now. She thinks getting started with something, even if it is
small, is a good idea.
6. Gary: Savor Cannon Beach Wine and Culinary Festival March 10-13.
(Thursday - Sunday) Only 29 of the 100 available $60 Festival tickets
remain. 500 $25 Winter Wine Tickets will be sold. Festival tickets include
the Winter Wine Walk which is a benefit for the CB Children's Center.

2. JimK: HRAP/Friends of Haystack Rock are looking for funding. Increased
coverage at the Rock requires increased funding.

3. Bruce: Port of Astoria has 19 (up from 9 last year) Cruise Ships
scheduled this Spring. All with excursions scheduled for Cannon Beach. Most
excursions will be in town for 90 minutes starting around 10am. They stop in
Seaside on their way here. If Cannon Beach wants to get anything to the
people before they get here, someone has to gather that info and drive it to
the dock where it is put on the seats of the busses.

4. Prudence: This Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the Cannon Beach Literary
Arts Symposium with Taylor Branch. The event kicks off at 2pm Friday at the
Chamber Hall. If you have printed information to share, you can still drop
it off on Thursday at the Chamber Hall during setup. Event info at

11. Carmen Swigart/Aaron Meyer: Sea Ranch Resort presents Children's Summer
Music Camp 2011 with violinist Aaron Meyer and guitarist/producer Tim Ellis.
Wed and Thur June 22 and 23 at Sea Ranch's "Sundance Event Lodge". Aaron is
originally from Philly. His father was a classic concert violinist. Aaron
came to Oregon to study at Lewis and Clark, but not music. He has since
immersed himself in music. He is passionate about music education. He visits
schools regularly. He has been doing a summer children's workshop in
Portland for years. His workshop is designed for 8 to 14 yr olds with or
without music experience. The fee is $250 for two sessions/day for two days
followed by a concert. Participants will learn how to write, perform and
record their own original songs and make their own MP3. Each child creates a
song, choosing all aspects of that song. The musical creations of each
student are recorded. Aaron does an annual Holiday Concert and would love to
bring a performance to Cannon Beach. Aaron treated us to a performance on
his violin of an original composition - his first in 1996.

12. Gary: Savor Cannon Beach Wine and Culinary Festival March 10-13.
(Thursday - Sunday) 50 of the 100 available $60 Festival tickets have been
sold. 500 $25Winter Wine Tickets will be sold. Festival tickets include the
Winter Wine Walk which is a benefit for the CB Children's Center. Posters
and table tents will be out next week. "The Cannon Beach Guide to Culinary
and Cultural Attractions" is being produced in conjunction with the
Festival. 26 pages will be sold at $325 per page. 10K will be printed with
an estimated 1000 distributed during the Festival and the remainder in the

13. Jim: Icefire Glassworks is selling $2 raffle tickets for one of Jim's
pieces to benefit the Cannon Beach Children's Center. 503-436-2359.
14. Bruce: Port of Astoria wants to see Seaport Airlines stay. Without more
passengers, that will not be possible. 10-pack ticket vouchers are being
offered for $600. Each coupon is a one way ticket to or from Portland.
