8. JohnB/GeorgeV: The filming of the PBS series "Getting Away Together" by
PineRidge Film and TV completed Sunday night. Everyone involved had good
things to say about it. The three young couples who were "Getting Away
Together" were real life friends, not actors. One is the granddaughter of
Patricia Seargent, former owner of Rain n Shine on Hemlock where Windermere
just opened. Here is the email that George sent out Monday - "I have posted
my photos from this weekend's "Getting Away Together" filming. I was keeping
my gallery open between shooting, so by no means was able to be at all the
venues. You can view these images as a slideshow by clicking on the middle
arrow below the large image, go forward and backward at your own pace with
the right and left arrows, or pick and choose by scrolling the small images
on the left. iPads and iPhones won't work thanks to the relationship between
Apple and Adobe. Find the images at
<http://www.cannon-beach.net/photos_gv/events/GettingAway-Sep2013>
www.Cannon-Beach.net/photos_gv/events/GettingAway-Sep2013. The PineRidge
crew was a real pleasure to work with. Producer/production manager Joan,
Director Jerry, cameraman Stan, sound man John, still photographer Keith,
makeup artist/extra Patty, studio production/extra Cindy, local hired
gripper Stephen and local hired crew assistant Jessica were all so friendly,
positive and skilled. It was a pleasure being in front of and behind the
camera. Getting away together in Cannon Beach - you gotta love it!".. George
9. PhilS/RyanH: September is business/community outreach month for the
Cannon Beach Charter School. October is parent outreach and student signup
month. A Charter School by Oregon rules is a Public School Choice - open to
any student in the school district which it is part of. The school district
receives money for each student who attends. When district school students
attend a charter school, 80% of that money goes to the charter school. The
district still has some special educational responsibilities. A charter
school has no taxing authority. An estimated $500K will need to be raised.
Until a new school can be built, the school intends to find temporary
quarters. Negotiations are in progress with the 13K sq ft Explora Store on
Hemlock in midtown. The goal is to open Sept 2014. A Charter school's
curriculum must be unique from what is being offered in the district's
schools. The K-5 school will use "Direct Instruction" and "Core Knowledge"
in the curriculum. There will be a limit on how many student the school can
accommodate. The first "pool" will take place in October. If the limit is
not reached, all those who apply will be accepted. If the limit is exceeded,
there will be a lottery. This is by Oregon rule. More "pools" will take
place if there is still room for more students. The school currently has 30
people working on committees. Many are not parents of prospective students,
by concerned citizens who want to see a school in town for the children of
Cannon Beach. Learn more at www.thecannonbeachacademy.com
10. MaryF: Clatsop Community College has 15 or more Workforce Training
classes this fall with some starting immediately. Alcohol Server Training,
Basic Computing, CASA, CPR, Flagger Certification, Food Handlers Training,
Quickbooks, Social Security for Boomers, Spanish for Educators, etc. Learn
