1. DebbieN/CourtC/JimP: The 51 Anniversary of the Sandcastle Contest us just
10 days away. Volunteers are still needed. Setup begins at 530am, but help
is needed after that also. Contact courtc at cannonbeach.org. Weekend events
include parade (free) and dinner ($10) on Friday night, contest, concert
and bonfire on Saturday and run on Sunday. Pick up brochures at the Chamber
where you can also become a plot buddy ($25), buy tees, sweats, caps, mugs
(10% off to members if purchased prior to the event), posters ($75 for
signed, limited and $25 for smaller open edition) and the new Sandcastle

2. CourtC .. Goonies weekend in Cannon Beach was a big success. Thursday's
bonfire (actually 9 bonfires) in front of Ocean Lodge had 200 people and
Sunday's Truffle Shuffle Walk Run from the Tolovana Wayside had nearly 500
people and the movie showing at the Coaster had 100 people. Find George's

3.CourtC: Traffic could be crazy on Sandcaslte Saturday as Seaside has a
soccer tournament and a car show while Astoria has their Scandinavian
Festival. Plan accordingly.
4. CourtC: The regular monthly Chamber Board meeting is Tuesday June 16 at
9am. There is still an opening for a Board position. Contact

5. GeorgeV/JimK: The Tourism and Arts Committee has completed its
recommendations to the Council for allocation of this year's $283K of

Technology Enhancements - $11,800, Children Ctr Savor CB - $37,700. Gallery

Followed on Thursday by Goonies Bonfire in Cannon Beach at 8pm at the Ocean

2. CourtC .. Cannon Beach was represented in the Portland Rose Festival
Starlight Parade this past weekend with the Sandcastle Float, mermaids and
walkers including Court, committee chair Debbie Nelson, float designers and
builders John Nelson, Sam Steidel and Dave Vonada. Special thanks to John
and Coaster Construction for building a "dock" for the mermaids to hang out
on, for hauling the float to and from Portland and pulling it in the parade.

10. GeorgeV: City Manager Brant Kucera has announced the hiring of two new
positions at City Hall. The new IT Director is Russell Barrett and the new
Finance Director is Laurie Sawrey. Both these positions were created to
move from contracted services to in-house services as cost-saving measures.
KathyK: Hopefully these people or someone at City Hall will find time to
pursue grants that are available to the city.

19. The black oystercatcher is a US Fish & Wildlife "Species of Concern"
due to its small population size (less than 400 on the Oregon coast). They
have a nest at Haystack Rock that is vulnerable. Keep your dogs on leash at
the Rock. Only observe nesting birds from a distance.

Sandcastle float in the Starlight Parade in Portland. Tune to Channel 12
