2. JaneB: Narrative Ceramic Sculpture is the exhibition at Cannon Beach
Gallery (Cannon Beach Arts Assn) thur Oct 16. Sculptures by 8 artist are

3. JaneB: Cannon Beach Gallery (Cannon Beach Arts Assn) will open an annex
upstairs at Sandpiper Sq next to Jeffrey Hull Gallery in October. Besides
display, the space will serve for education and workshops.
4. CourtC: Stormy Weather Arts Festival poster art this year is by
John Exner. The piece is called "Calm between the Storms". Posters and
flyers will be out soon. Donation for Saturday's auction during Art in
Action at Surfsand Ballroom can be dropped at the Chamber, or call
503-436-2623 to arrange a pick-up.
5. CourtC:OCVA (Oregon Coast Visitors Assn) will have its board meeting in
Cannon Beach September 28. The night before at 5pm at the Chamber will be a
Business After Hours event with OCVA. Plan to attend
6. Various people reported on how summer business went. All mentioned how
last summer's ideal weather wasn't matched this year. CourtC: Heard mixed
reviews. Some up, others not. BillyJoeE: Mo's did better than expected, but
not as good as last year. GeorgeV: Heard from several business that this
summer was not a good one for them.
7. KevanR: The Chamber Marketing Committee is progressing with its
marketing. Outreach includes Facebook, Instagram and Trip Advisor. The plan
includes the branding of Cannon Beach. Branding is the consistent use of a
logo, tag line, font, color, etc with the goal of making ads, brochures,
websites, etc quickly recognizable and familiar. All businesses will have
access to these elements to incorporate with and accompany their own
branding.
8. MelissaD: Ocean Spa has picked up the ball on Women Only Weekend (WOW) -
2nd weekend of Nov (Nov 11-13). To participate, contact Melissa

9. JeanieMc: The 14 Costa Ricans from the annual Partners of the Americas
visit to the North Coast are all adults. The 14 "Ticos" and 10 North Coast
hosts from Brownsmead, Astoria, and Seaside are coming to Cannon Beach on
Friday Sept 12 from 1 to 5 PM. They are looking forward to nature and
culture highlights of Cannon Beach.

10. JasonS: A new CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class will take

15. BrantK: Breakers Point has been given the green light to proceed with
limited dune grading. The Fir Street bridge will be reinforced this
fall/winter. Lane closures will be necessary. Tomorrow, Thursday at 6pm at
the Chamber is a community Pot Luck where community grants will be publicly
awarded. Flu shot will be given tomorrow at City Hall. Bring your insurance
card. Three candidates are running for 2 city council positions - Herb
Florer, Brandon Ogilvie and Nancy McCarthy.
16. JasonS: Applications are being accepted now for the no-cost Head Start

17. JasonS: "Healthy Homes" is a program taking a stand against domestic
violence. Their 5th Annual 5K Walk/Run will be Oct 8 at the Barbey Maritime

2. PatF: Cruise ship season is upon us. Mark your calendar for Tuesday Sept
27 when up to 500 people will be getting to know Cannon Beach. They will
begin to arrive around 12:15pm and will be here till nearly 5pm. Be sure
your business is ready to welcome these visitors whose experience here may
well be impetus for a future vacation in Cannon Beach. Pat is looking for
volunteer host/hostesses to assist at the Chamber Community room on that

18 Costa Rican families are coming to the North Coast in September, and
will be in Cannon Beach Friday, September 9th from 2:00-6:00 pm. This
exchange was started by President Kennedy. “Partners of the Americas”. Call

Jeannie also brought up the need for lighting for the Hispanic Soccer games
held on various Wednesday nights, and went before city council asking for
lighting for the field in the evening hours in September as the nights are
getting darker earlier. Brant K responded the city is reviewing the request
for a potential of portable generator lights.
Jeannie told the group what wonderful faculty CCC has. She took a speech
class from instructor Deac Guidl and was amazed at his skill.

on Thursday, September 1st in Seaside, from 2:00-5:00 pm one day a month

Roberts of Westport Winery - Their tasting room is located behind
Windermere across from Seasons Cafe and is open daily 11-6. Their family
owned and run, 64-acre estate, winery employs 20 people and is located off
Hwy 105 between Westport and Aberdeen WA. They produce 34 wines and 2 hard
ciders. Blaine and Kim sold their scuba diving business in Hawaii to come
to the Northwest to open their winery. Westport and Cannon Beach are their
only locations and are all they want. They expressed how well they have
been received and how easy it was working with the City of Cannon Beach.

11. JoeM: Celebrating 125 years - Tillamook County Fair - Aug 10-13 -

12. GeorgeV: At last nights City Council meeting, the first ever Strategic
Plan was approved. The 2-5 year plan was developed over the past six
months. Input came from three components: 1. A citizen survey sent out to
all residential 97110 Post Office Boxes. 40% (296) were returned. 2.
Interviews of City employees (Department Heads). 3. Interviews of the 5
City Councilors. The survey was the National Citizen Survey by the National
Research Center Inc. The survey was adapted for Cannon Beach but still
allowed for nationwide comparison. Managing Results, a company out of
Crested Butte CO, was contracted to analyze the survey, do the interviews
and moderate the 2-day session with City Council, Department Heads and City
Attorney to create the final plan. The top five priorities are: Affordable
Housing, Emergency Management, Infrastructure, Relationship with Community,
Effective Government. Each priority has a list of measurable goals to
achieve by specified dates. This info will be posted to the city's website
soon - www.ci.cannon-beach.or.us. (Note: Reference to cleaning up the Short
Term Rental Regulations wording was moved from Affordable Housing to
Effective Government. "No new transient short term housing permits before
July 2017 " was removed)

of grandeur about raising some significant funds for Alzheimer’s, but I

12. JimP: The 234th Army Band of the Oregon National Guard is embarking on
its annual Summer Concert Series, Brass Ops will perform at 6 p.m. Tuesday,
July 19 at City Park in Cannon Beach. This 12-member brass band features
high-energy traditional and contemporary brass arrangements, marches and
historical literature.featuring programs in the local area performed by
several ensembles. All of the band’s performances are free, and open to the
public. Brass Ops, a brass group including electric bass, percussion,
saxophones and piccolo.

1. CourtC: Court introduced Matthew Weintraub. He has been hired full time
as the *Destination Marketing Specialist. *He was most recently the IMBA
(International Mountain Biking Association) Associate Region Director for
its Pacific Northwest Region, encompassing parts of Washington and all of
Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii. Before that he was an instructor at the
Bush School, a private K-12 institution in Seattle, and the events
coordinator for his local mountain bike group. He has extensive land
management experience with the U.S. Forest Service and the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife, and recently completed his Master’s Degree
in Forest Ecosystem Analysis at the University of Washington. He is
currently living in Portland. Stop by the Chamber to welcome him. He is
seeking housing here. A room will do for now, but he wants an apartment or

3. The Seaside Rotary Foundation annually raises money at a dinner and
auction. Last year's goal was $78K. Funds are used to support local groups
and individuals including senior citizen projects, scholarships, exchange

8. JaneB: Summer Internship: Application deadline July 11. Cannon Beach
Arts Association seeks applicants to its Intern Program. The summer
internship will begin in July, running through until the end of September.
The intern will gain a variety of experience in all aspects of working in a

9. GeorgeV: At last night's City Council Meeting, the TAC recommended
monetary awards to 9 non-profits for 14 events/projects were approved.
Nearly $266K was awarded in all. $20K was held in reserve. These are
lodging tax revenues that are required by state statute to be spent on
putting heads-in-beds. The single event receiving the most funds ($43K) is
the Yoga festival followed by Savor Cannon Beach ($40K). The Gallery Group
will receive $44K to to be spent between two events - Spring Unveiling and
Plein Air & More.

11. KevanR: As the Chamber Marketing Committee Chair, Kevan is hopeful that

13. JohnB/GeorgeV: After more than 6 years as our WMM moderator, 8 years as
a City Councilor and many more years as manager at the Ocean Lodge, Wendy
and husband Fred are building a home in the Tri-Cities where Wendy will
manage a new inn by Ocean Lodge's parent company Escape Lodging. Join
friends for a farewell party Wednesday July 13 from 3-6pm at the Driftwood.
Then go over to the Chamber for Postmaster Carolyn Anderson retirement
party.
14. GeorgeV: 4th of July weekend was a busy one. And a great one! Of
course, the parade was the highlight. The streets were lined with
spectators, many of whom were kids with bags ready to fill with the candy
raining down from the parade. Where once it was just downtown on Hemlock St
that the people gathered, now they are lined up all along Spruce and
